The western Sulzplatte is a natural area ( 082.30 ) of the southern Franconian Alb in the south-western German stepland .

It is part of the northern part of the Southern Franconian Alb , a sub-area of the Southern Franconian Alb , which in turn belongs to the Franconian Alb , also known as the Franconian Alb . It is a Jura plateau which lies between the valley of the Schwarzach and the Sulz. The north of the plate at Viehhausen up to 571  m above sea level. Reached NHN and in the Haunstetter forest . Over ten percent gradients lead from the Schwarzach and Anlautertal to the southern part of the Anlauteralb.

Geographical description

In the north the Schwarzachtal (111.01) borders the Freystädter Albvorland and the southern and western Neumarkt Basin (111.12) of the Neumarkt Basin , in the east the Sulztal (82.31), in the south the Beilngries-Dietfurt valley zone (82.37) and in the east the Schwarzach-Thalach- Taltrichter (82.29) of the Altmühlalb .

Because the Jurassic rock is karstified underground , it is drained extensively underground through fissures and has only a few watercourses on the surface. The water table and surface water in their dug-in valleys are very deep. In the past, this caused great problems with the water supply for the villages on the Alb plateau. There are two larger gravel works in the south.

colonization

There are no large towns on the western Sulz area. With Greding , Beilngries and Berching, these are located in the neighboring valleys. They are Viehhausen , Kleinnottersdorf , Österberg , Stierbaum , Rübling , Rudertshofen , Wirbertshofen , Röckenhofen , Hernsberg , Litterzhofen , Fribertshofen , Staudenhof , Landerzhofen , Attenhofen , Birkhof , Kaising , Wiesenhofen , Kaldorf , Hirschberg and Haunstetten .

The area is only very sparsely populated and is used for agriculture and forestry. There are large forests especially in the north and south-west.
