When King Alexander of Alania makes an unofficial visit to Vienna , the city of his dreams, and he is shown all the beautiful sides of Vienna, he learns of his dismissal due to a coup .

The fallen, by no means arrogant monarch gets a job as a chauffeur and falls in love with the sculptor Elisabeth Seyboldt. Princess Sandra von Alanien feels drawn to music professor Peter Lehnert, where she takes piano lessons.

This is followed by a lovely evening at a Grinzinger Heuriger , where wine is drunk and Viennese songs are sung. When everyone is satisfied, Alexander is needed back in his home country because the government cannot do without him. He is supposed to assume the function of the new President of Alania.
