The Wiha Tools Ltd. is a manufacturer of hand tools for industry and trade, headquartered in Schonach . As the parent company of the Wiha Group, Wiha Werkzeuge GmbH controls production sites in Germany, Switzerland, Poland and Vietnam as well as sales companies in Europe, America, Asia and New Zealand. The company is family-run in the third generation.

Wiha mainly produces and sells tool ranges, screwdrivers , torque tools , multifunctional tools , L-keys, bits , pliers , impact and measuring tools worldwide . In addition to standard designs, tools with protective insulation are also manufactured that comply with the DIN-VDE standards for hand tools for use in live work (so-called VDE tools), as well as antistatic tools for working on sensitive electronic components ( ESD tools ).

history

Wiha Werkzeuge GmbH emerged from Willi Hahn GmbH & Co. KG, which was founded in Wuppertal in 1939 . Wiha Werkzeuge GmbH in its current form was founded in 2001, as was its sister company, the Wuppertal Willi Hahn GmbH.

The founder Willi Hahn produced molded parts and screws at the Wuppertal site. In May / June 1943 Hahn moved the company headquarters to Schonach . Screwdriver production began here after the end of World War II in 1947. Production in Wuppertal was resumed in 1948; the Schonach location developed into an independent company in the following years. In 1966, Wiha acquired a plant in Mönchweiler, 22 km away . Further production sites were set up in Buchs (Switzerland, 2002 through the purchase of Kunststoffwerk AG Buchs), in Gdańsk (Poland, 2005) and in Song Cong (Vietnam, 2007).

In 1985 Wiha founded a subsidiary in the USA (today Willi Hahn Corp.). Further sales companies were established in France, Great Britain and Spain (1991), Poland (2000), China (2005), Denmark (2006), India and Canada (2008), Singapore (2009) and Finland (2016).

In 1997, Wiha introduced an ergonomic handle design for screwdrivers with the SoftFinish brand: Four individual handle shapes with soft and hard grip zones are intended to enable improved manual guidance and torque transmission for screwdrivers of different sizes. Wiha has also been manufacturing pliers since 2006. With the Inomic brand, the company brought an angled pliers handle onto the market in 2008, which enables the wrist to be held straight when working with the pliers. In March 2018, Wiha presented the SpeedE electric screwdriver at the International Hardware Fair in Cologne. According to the company, the screwdriver with hybrid drive (through switchable electrical screw assistance) is the first product of its kind on the craft market.

Wiha is a member of the trade association for industrial companies in Baden .

Wiha Werkzeuge GmbH (Schonach) is the parent company of the Wiha Group. The company operates the production sites in Schonach (toolmaking and plastics production) and Mönchweiler (production of blades and L-keys). The group includes the production companies Kunststoffwerk AG in Buchs (Switzerland) (production of measuring tools and plastic hose systems), Wiha Werkzeuge Sp. Z oo in Gdańsk (Poland) and Wiha Vietnam Co. Ltd. in Song Cong (Vietnam), as well as the sales companies Wiha France (France), Wiha Iberia (Spain), Wiha Tools Ltd. (UK), Wiha Polska Sp. Z oo (Poland), Wiha Tools Shanghai Co. Ltd. (China), Wiha Nordic A / S (Denmark), Wiha Tools Canada Ltd. (Canada), Wiha Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (Singapore) and Wiha Finland Oy (Finland).

Hand tools

Wiha manufactures screwdrivers with conventional and ergonomic (SoftFinish) handle solutions for dry applications, screwdrivers with non-slip special handles (MicroFinish) for oily and damp applications, precision screwdrivers and voltage testers, screwdrivers with bit magazine in the handle, screwdrivers with interchangeable blade sets in a case, and multi-tools with fold-out blades Screwdrivers with adjustable torque (iTorque) as well as screwdrivers with variably adjustable (TorqueVario) or fixed (TorqueFix, easyTorque) torque limits as well as bit assortments for hand-held and mechanical screwdriving tools. In addition to conventional versions, Wiha has been producing color-coded bits since 2017, which are intended to simplify the selection of the suitable bit for different screw applications. L-keys from Wiha with hexagonal and Torx profiles are available individually and as a set in a holder.

The range of pliers from Wiha includes combination pliers , flat , round and needle-nose pliers, stripping tools , side cutters , pincers , pipe wrenches , grip pliers , water pump pliers , bolt cutters and other specialized pliers tools. The company also produces soft-face hammers with striking heads made of rubber or plastics of different hardness, dowel beater and electrician's hammers as well as measuring tools made of glass fiber reinforced plastic .

VDE tools

Various screwdrivers, interchangeable blades, torque tools and some pliers (installation pliers, stripping tools and cable cutters ) are manufactured by Wiha for electrical applications as fully insulated VDE tools tested in accordance with DIN EN 60900. The manufacturer calls slimFix and slimVario VDE screwdrivers with protective insulation integrated into the blade, the narrower blades of which allow better access to deep-seated screws. Tool sets and tool cases from Wiha contain VDE-certified tools for the needs of electricians and service technicians.

ESD tools

The tool manufacturer's range includes ESD screwdrivers tested according to DIN EN 61340-5-1, ESD screwdrivers with adjustable torque limitation and ESD-compatible universal, precision and SMD tweezers for working on electronic components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharges.

E screwdriver

The Wiha e-screwdriver (SpeedE) is shaped like a manual screwdriver, but has a battery-operated electric motor integrated in the handle that supports the screwing process as long as the tightening torque is below a certain limit value (0.4 Nm). If the limit value is reached, the motor switches off automatically and the screwing process is ended manually.

Awards

Product design

Wiha has received twenty iF Design Awards since 1992 (including 2017 for a magazine for 13 double bits housed in the handle of a screwdriver (LiftUp 26One)). The design prizes awarded to the company also include six Red Dot Design Awards (including 2017 also for LiftUp 26One and 2014 for a high-performance diagonal cutter, whose cutting power doubles at the push of a button (BiCut)) and multiple awards for the design prize awarded by the Design Center Baden-Württemberg Focus Open (2013 Silver for a storage box for pocket-sized bits (BitBuddy), 2017 Silver for LiftUp 26one, 2018 special mention for the SpeedE screwdriver). Wiha also received the German Design Award 2019 in gold for SpeedE .

ergonomics

Screwdriver handles from the SoftFinish brand, Inomic pliers and the E-screwdriver from Wiha are the first hand tools to bear the seal of approval of the Aktion Gesunderback (AGR) for particularly back-friendly everyday products.

Companies

In 2014 Wiha received the MX Award in the “Best SME” category, which was presented for the first time this year. In 2016 the tool manufacturer was awarded the "Top 100" seal for particularly innovative medium-sized companies.

Sports sponsorship

Wiha has been the name sponsor of the Wiha Panthers basketball team from Villingen-Schwenningen since 2010 . The company has been supporting SC Freiburg as a sponsor since 2017 .
