Wild Frontier is a music album by Northern Irish hard rock and blues guitarist Gary Moore . It was released on Virgin Records in March 1987 .

history

After a trip back to Belfast , Moore released this album, on which several songs are about Ireland . The music also has Celtic influences. A drum machine was used for the recordings . The title track was originally supposed to be sung by Phil Lynott , which prevented his death in January 1986. The album was dedicated to Lynott with the words "For Philip".

Over the Hills and Far Away became one of Moore's most famous pieces and has been covered several times; an interpretation of Nightwish became particularly well known . The piece peaked at number 20 in the UK . Also included is Friday on My Mind, a cover version of an old song by The Easybeats . The instrumental piece The Loner - a composition by keyboardist Max Middleton - is a new recording of the title that Gary Moore had already contributed as a guest musician on the LP Over The Top by drummer Cozy Powell in 1979. In the style of a rock ballad, it shows the typical solo skills and expressive possibilities of Gary Moore on the electric guitar, especially his very differentiated pulling of the strings ( bending ).

criticism

The Allmusic website criticized the decision to use a drum machine. Nevertheless, it is not a bad record, it is only "slightly disappointing". It gave it a rating of 2 out of 5.
