Wilfried Dubbels (* 1950 in Zeven ) is a licensed pharmacist , author and German bodybuilder who won the title of Mr. Germany Jr. in bodybuilding .

Youth and sports career

Wilfried Dubbels was fascinated from a young age by model athletes like Steeve Reeves , who became famous around the world primarily for his portrayal of Hercules on the movie screen in the late 1950s / early 1960s. Motivated by role models like Steeve Reeves, Wilfried Dubbels set himself the goal of developing his body as aesthetically as possible and building muscle mass in a targeted manner . His training equipment initially consisted of a self-made barbell and two "variable" dumbbells. In his parents' chicken coop in the rural village of Heeslingen , at the age of 15, he built a concrete barbell , two buckets and a long crowbar in order to get a little closer to his dream of a successful strength athlete. His "variable" dumbbells consisted of two buckets filled with bricks. An expander that he received for Christmas completed his scant training equipment. In his early days, Dubbels trained using the "trial and error method" alone in the "home studio" (in his parents' chicken coop) and "copied" the training programs of his bodybuilding idols from various fitness magazines, such as B. the Sportrevue .

In 1970, shortly after graduating from high school, Wilfried Dubbels temporarily moved his residence to Berlin in order to optimally prepare for various Berlin championships in bodybuilding. In addition to a simple full-body workout (the opposite of split training ), which consisted of only 7 basic exercises and was performed 3 times a week, Dubbels prepared himself for bodybuilding with a balanced but protein-focused diet and a liver yeast supplement Championships in 1970. By the guest appearance of Peter Gottlob in the current Schaubude covered dubbels his then protein needs, the overall protein intake and the biological value of any protein. The key statement by Peter Gottlob on the importance of proteins in weight training was as follows:

"Our muscle substance is subject to constant build-up and breakdown. If you want to gain strength and mass, you have to shift this balance in favor of muscle building. Strength training and a protein-rich diet support this process." - Thank you Peter

Wilfried Dubbels started bodybuilding when he was only 15 when he was still at school . Shortly after graduating from high school in 1969 and during his internship to train as a pharmacist , he successfully took part in various bodybuilding championships, all of which, with the exception of the German Junior Championship in 1970 (2nd place), he was able to finish as a winner. Including the prestigious title of Mr. Germany Jr. in 1971.

The Berlin championship in bodybuilding, where Dubbels left the stage as the winner as Mr. Berlin in 1970, took place in Rolf Shimon Eden's nightclub "New Eden Saloon" and was broadcast by ZDF . The bodybulding contest for the Mr. Body (best-built athlete at the Berlin Film Festival) also took place in the premises of the nightclub, whereby the high society of Berlin was represented at this event among the spectators as well as among the jury members , which aroused the media interest nationwide ( German Press agency ). The first North German championship in Flensburg in 1970, which Dubbels was made aware of via the strength sports magazine Sportrevue, did not yet classify participants according to height, body weight or age. Wilfried Dubbels was able to win the title of Mr. North Germany as the youngest participant due to his harmonious physical development as the overall winner.
