Wilhelm Georg von Schack (born December 5, 1751 in Berlin , † March 14, 1827 there ) was a Prussian major general and governor of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia .

Life

origin

His parents were the secret finance councilor Johann Georg von Schack (* 1694; † May 5, 1758) and his wife Anna Abigail, born von Hymmen († May 22, 1753). Major General Friedrich Ludwig von Schack (1747–1829) was his brother. His nephew was Johann Georg Emil von Brause , governor of Prince Wilhelm and commandant of the Prussian cadet institutions .

Military career

Schack came in 1767 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "Radziwill" . There he was promoted to Second Lieutenant until November 4, 1773 and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . After the war, Schack became Premier Lieutenant on June 4, 1784 , staff captain on October 3, 1787 and captain and company commander in the cadet corps on February 21, 1790 . There he became major on June 24, 1791 and on September 24, 1793 he was appointed director of the newly established cadet institute in Kalisch . On March 5, 1798, Schack was appointed governor of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, a brother of King Friedrich Wilhelm III, with a salary of 2000 thalers . On June 6, 1799 he was appointed lieutenant colonel and on June 5, 18001 he was appointed colonel . On January 16, 1804 he was then transferred to the 2nd Department of the Upper War College as an assessor. On August 16, 1806, he also received an allowance of 500 thalers. During the Fourth Coalition War , it was his job to source weapons and ammunition from England and Sweden. A difficult task which he carried out with great success. At the end of 1807 they were sent to Königsberg to re-equip the army.

After the war, Schack received his retirement as major general on December 26, 1808 . He died on March 14, 1827 in Berlin and was buried on March 19, 1827 in the garrison cemetery.

Schack married Auguste Elisabeth Henriette von Borcke on September 22, 1784 in Magdeburg (born November 30, 1764 - † January 31, 1830). The couple had several children:
