August Wilhelm von Schack (born May 6, 1793 in Berlin ; † May 24, 1864 ibid) was a Prussian major general and first adjutant to Prince Wilhelm of Prussia .

Life

origin

He comes from the Müssen branch of the Lüneburg- Uradeligen family of the Lords of Schack . He was the son of the Prussian major general Wilhelm Georg von Schack (1752-1827) and his wife Auguste Elisabeth Henriette, born von Borcke (1764-1830). His brothers were Major General Wilhelm von Schack , General of the Infantry and Herr auf Stechau Hans Wilhelm von Schack (1791–1866) and Major General Ferdinand von Schack (1787–1846). His brother-in-law were Major General Florian von Seydlitz (1777–1832) and the court marshal of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, Hans Karl Dietrich von Rochow (1791–1857). His cousin was Johann Georg Emil von Brause .

Military career

Schack came to Berlin as a cadet on June 1, 1803 , but had to return to his father on January 28, 1810 after the lost war of 1806 . On February 18, 1813, he volunteered in the 1st Jäger Battalion of the Prussian Army and on July 11, 1813, he became a second lieutenant . During the Wars of Liberation , Schack fought in the sieges of Spandau and Wittenberg as well as in the battles of Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig , Laon and the battles near Hoyerswerda and Treppin. He was also involved in the assault on Doesburg and Arnheim , in the latter he was wounded. He then fought in the skirmishes of Hoogstraten and Compiègne . For Compiègne he received the Iron Cross 2nd class.

After the war he was transferred to the Guard Jäger Battalion on April 14, 1816 . On March 6, 1817, he came to Mainz as an adjutant to the garrison brigade . On March 30, 1818, he was transferred to the Adjutantur as Prime Lieutenant and used as Adjutant of the garrison brigades in Mainz and Luxembourg . From there he was transferred to the 2nd Guard Division on March 30, 1820 as an adjutant and promoted to captain on March 30, 1834 . On March 30, 1836, Schack came to Prince Wilhelm of Prussia as the first adjutant. On April 18, 1836 he became major and on October 10, 1839 he was accepted into the Order of St. John . Schack received the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order on December 24, 1839 . On March 31, 1846 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on April 19, 1849 was colonel . For his work, Schack received the Order of the Red Eagle III on October 12, 1849 . Class with a bow. On November 13, 1851, he was initially put up for disposal with a pension . He received his departure on February 11, 1854 as major general. On March 4, 1858, it was again put up for disposal. After his death on May 27, 1864, Schack was buried in the old garrison cemetery.

He married Wilhelmine Freiin von Forstner (1802–1875) in Berlin on May 6, 1825. The couple had four sons and five daughters, including:
