Friedrich Ludwig von Schack

Friedrich Ludwig von Schack (born August 11, 1747 in Berlin , † April 23, 1829 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were Johann Georg von Schack (1694–1758) and his wife Anna Abigail, born von Hymmen († 1753). Major general Wilhelm Georg von Schack (1751–1827) was his brother.

Military career

Schack came to Berlin as a cadet on December 1, 1760 and was employed on May 27, 1766 with a patent from November 3, 1763 as an ensign in the "von Hülsen" infantry regiment of the Prussian army . There he became second lieutenant on May 23, 1770 and as such on March 22, 1773 adjutant of the Duke of Braunschweig . As a prime lieutenant , Schack took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession and received the order Pour le Mérite for the battle near Troppau .

After the war he became a staff captain on December 16, 1782 and a captain and company commander on September 7, 1783 . On June 29, 1786, Schack was transferred as a major to the "von Eichmann" infantry regiment . There he became battalion commander on January 24, 1793. In the First Coalition War he fought in the battles near Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern as well as in the battles near St. Imbert, Deidesheim, am Schätzel and the cannonade of Saarbrücken. During that time he was transferred to the "von Kunitzky" infantry regiment on April 25, 1794 as commander . There he became lieutenant colonel on January 15, 1796 and colonel on May 20, 1798 with a patent from June 14, 1798. On September 15, 1800 he came as a commander in the infantry regiment "von Laurens" and received on May 20, 1806 the appointment to Major general. In the fourth coalition war , Schack fell into the surrender of Magdeburg and was made inactive on November 11, 1806. The next court martial conceded him on November 14, 1809 and sentenced him to two years imprisonment in fortress Spandau . On January 25, 1810, he received the permit to spend the arrest in the city of Spandau . On September 13, 1814, he received his departure without a pension . He was not granted a pension until 1825. He died on April 23, 1829 in Erfurt.

Schack was married to Karoline Henriette Christiane von Stutterheim (1766-1829). The couple had several children:
