Friedrich Philipp Wilhelm Freiherr von Leonhardi (born December 1, 1812 in Frankfurt am Main ; † December 5, 1856 ibid) was a German author and Hessian diplomat .

origin

His parents were the Bundestag envoy Freiherr Friedrich Freiherr von Leonhardi (1778-1839) and his wife, Baroness Augusta du Fay (1782-1852).

Life

He studied in Leipzig , Heidelberg , Berlin and Giessen Jura, which he in 1833 with a doctorate to Dr. iur. utr. completed. He lived for some time in Paris and Nancy , since 1839 alternately in Groß-Karben and Frankfurt, where he wrote historical and legal treatises that were important in terms of politics.

With his elaborations on the Austrägal proceedings , the civil arbitration proceedings of the German Confederation as well as the Federal War Constitution, Leonhardi was involved in the sub-areas of the German Confederation that can also be assessed as successful in retrospect. Even if the German Confederation failed as a whole, its military, defensive and peace-keeping role shaped Europe for decades. Thanks to the two institutions, the Austrägal proceedings and the war constitution, numerous conflicts were resolved without military clashes.

As a result of the publication on the war constitution, Leonhardi received various offers for diplomatic posts and decided on Hessen-Darmstadt . From 1847, as an authorized minister, he was head of the Hessian-Darmstadt legations at the Nassauischer Hof in Wiesbaden and the Free City of Frankfurt , as was his brother Louis later on. At the age of forty-three, shortly before his death, he married Freiin Auguste von Dungern on June 25, 1856, daughter of the then Duke of Nassau Bundestag envoy and former Minister of State Emil August von Dungern .

The widow married the poet lawyer Gisbert von Vincke in Frankfurt on July 10, 1860 .

Awards

Foreign governments awarded him high medals in recognition of his publications: the Guelph Order , the House Order of Henry the Lion , the Ernestine House Order etc .; the award of personal nobility in the Kingdom of Hanover was associated with the Guelph Order . Leonhardi was Chamberlain and Privy Legation Councilor (since 1855) as well as Bavarian Chamberlain and member of several learned societies.
