Gisbert von Vincke
Karl Gisbert Friedrich Freiherr von Vincke (born September 6, 1813 in Ickern , † February 5, 1892 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German poet lawyer and Shakespeare researcher.
origin
Gisbert von Vincke's parents were the future Westphalian President Ludwig von Vincke and his wife Eleonore von Syberg (1788-1826). His brother Georg (1811-1875) was an important German administrative lawyer.
Life
He was born on the noble seat of Haus Ickern in Castrop-Rauxel. After attending school in Dortmund and Bielefeld, he studied law in Heidelberg and Berlin from 1830 to 1834 . In 1831 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg . Friedrich Hecker , Albert Sprengel and Karl Eduard Zachariae von Lingenthal belonged to his student environment in Heidelberg . Vincke's fellow student Theodor Hoffmeister (1812–1834) drew a portrait of him as a youth in 1832.
After a brief court activity, he switched to administration. He passed his examination for the higher administrative service in 1842, then worked first in the Potsdam government council and from 1846 as a member of the government of the Westphalian provincial administration in Münster . In 1860 an eye disease forced him to retire early. Von Vincke first moved to Frankfurt am Main and in 1868 to Freiburg im Breisgau , where he devoted himself to his literary work until the end of his life and traveled extensively.
Von Vincke's contemporary importance is based primarily on his plays and writings on the staging of William Shakespeare's plays . For many years he was President of the German Shakespeare Society . The poet Fritz Reuter and Gustav zu Putlitz , the general manager of the Karlsruhe court theater, were among his circle of friends .
family
He was married twice. His first wife Antonie von Monsterberg (* 23 August 1826 - 23 March 1857), daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Karl von Monsterberg , he married on September 28, 1848 in Münster. The marriage had a daughter:
