Willi Koch (1963)

Willi Koch (born September 23, 1903 in Neustadt in Holstein ; † June 19, 1968 in Kiel ) was a German newspaper publisher and politician ( CDU ). In 1946 he was the Lord Mayor of Kiel and from 1946 to 1950 a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament .

Koch attended secondary school in Eutin and Oldesloe and graduated from high school in Neustadt in Holstein. He then studied journalism and German studies as a working student . From 1924 he worked as a businessman in Kiel, in 1927 he bought a wholesale business. On May 1, 1933 he became a member of the NSDAP , from 1934 a member of the NSV . In August 1938 he applied for admission to the Reichsschrifttumskammer .

In 1946 Koch was one of the founders of the CDU in Schleswig-Holstein and at the federal level. In March 1946 the British military government granted him a newspaper license for the Kieler Nachrichten , he was co-editor and later publisher of the newspaper until his death in 1968.

On March 11, 1946, Koch was elected Lord Mayor of Kiel by the provisional city council. Koch's term of office was short, as the first election of a city council after the Second World War took place on October 13, 1946 and the mayor was subsequently elected on October 18. Andreas Gayk became Koch's successor .

Koch belonged to the second appointed state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein from December 2, 1946 to April 19, 1947. In the state elections in 1947 he was elected to the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament via the CDU state list and belonged to the state parliament again from May 8, 1947 to May 31, 1950.

Koch was co-founder of the Kiel press club and most recently its honorary chairman. From 1946 to 1952 he was a member of the administrative board of Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesbrandkasse.

In 1965 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
