Max Emcke (* 22. July 1892 in Weding , † 8. November 1982 in Kiel ) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

After attending primary school in Tingleff in North Schleswig , Emcke also completed his secondary school leaving certificate and high school diploma in Flensburg after studying himself . He studied law and political science at the universities in Leipzig , Berlin and Kiel . After the legal traineeship in 1920, the doctorate in law in the same year and the preparatory period, he passed the Great State Examination in 1923. He then worked as a judge for a year, but then settled down as a lawyer in Kiel and was later appointed notary . After several mergers, his law firm still exists today under the name CausaConcilio in Kiel.

MP

From 1947 to 1950 Emcke was a member of the state parliament in Schleswig-Holstein and represented the constituency of Kiel-Zentrum in parliament. He was chairman of the investigative committee “Case Dr. Müller ". The Landtag elected him a member of the Federal Assembly , which elected Theodor Heuss as the first Federal President on September 12, 1949 .

Political party

Emcke, who had not previously belonged to any party, took part in the founding of the Democratic Union by Carl Schröter in 1945 , which in 1946 joined the CDU. In 1950 he left the CDU, in 1966 he joined the SPD .

Public offices

Emcke had been the acting Lord Mayor of Kiel since May 15, 1945. For unknown reasons , he was deposed on the instructions of the Allied Control Council in February 1946 and replaced by Otto Tschadek .
