William Jebor (born November 10, 1991 in Monrovia ) is a Liberian football player on the position of a striker . Since 2014 he has been part of the Rio Ave FC squad with play in the Primeira Liga , but has been loaned out to the Spanish second division club SD Ponferradina since summer 2015 .

Club career

Via Liberia and Syria to Egypt

William Jebor was born on November 10, 1991, during the Liberian Civil War , in the Liberian capital Monrovia. After working for LISCR FC ( Liberian International Shipping & Corporate Registry FC ) in his youth , he moved to the men's division of LPRC Oilers , another company team sponsored by the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company . After two years with the club from the capital, the 18-year-old Liberian made a move abroad, where he was signed by the Syrian first division club at-Tali'a . There he played at the side of the later top scorer of the season, the former Syrian youth international player Firas Kashosh , and finished the season with the club from Hama in ninth place in the table. Subsequently, in 2010 he moved to the Egyptian second division club Tersana SC , where he appeared in Group B of the three-pronged Egyptian second division. While he was active for the club from the metropolis of Giza , he also made his debut in the senior national team of his home country in March 2011 . He finished the 2010/11 season with the team in third place in the table, one point behind second-placed Itesalat and 15 points behind champions and promoted El Dakhleya FC .

Top scorer and champion in Egypt and Libya

Another club change brought him to league rivals El-Sharqeya lel-Dokhan , who had finished the 2010/11 season in Group B only in twelfth place in the table. Due to his consistently good performance in the Egyptian second division, the clubs from the Egyptian Premier League became aware of the strong attacking and goal-scoring Liberian. In 2012, Jebor switched to the first division club Tala'ea El-Gaish SC , with whom he started in the Egyptian Premier League 2012/13 , which was divided into two groups . He was used for his team in 14 of the 15 championship games and scored ten goals, making him top scorer of the 2012/13 season. Subsequently, he was awarded in December 2013 for the remainder of the 2013/14 season to the Libyan first division club Al-Ahly Tripoli , where he also acted in a very dangerous manner and immediately became Libyan football champions with the team. After the team ranked first after the regular season, they also won the subsequent five-round championship round to obtain the Libyan championship title. Associated with this was participation in the 2015 CAF Champions League , where the Tripoli club was used from the preliminary round, but was eliminated from the current tournament in this round. However, William Jebor was no longer involved after moving to Europe in the summer of 2014.

Jump to Europe

In August 2014, he signed a four-year contract with the Portuguese first division club Rio Ave FC , cup and league cup finalist of the previous season. The Liberian was bought out of an existing contract with the Egyptians for a rumored transfer fee of 200,000 euros , after having trained with the Portuguese from July 2014. With the Portuguese, he was quickly nicknamed Iron Man because of his fitness and well-developed muscles , but was rarely used as such under coach Pedro Martins . After he hadn't played in the Supercup game against Benfica Lisbon , he didn't make his competitive debut for Rio Ave until the end of August, when he made his debut in the second leg of the 2014/15 Europa League qualifying play-offs against IF Elfsborg . He came on the lawn in the 70th minute of play for Diego Lopes and, after he was not in the squad in the first two games and sat on the bench in the third round, also made his league debut in the fourth round of the championship as he played in the 1-1 away draw against Moreirense FC from the 61st minute of the game as a replacement for Renan Bressan . In the rest of the league he was only rarely used by Pedro Martins and when he did, mostly only as a substitute for a few minutes. It was not until the 28th round of the championship that the Liberian made a breakthrough in Portuguese professional football, when he was a regular for most of the time until the end of the season.

It was different for the Liberian center forward, however, in the Taça da Liga , the Portuguese league cup, in which he held a regular position in all games of his team from the start and was used in every match over the full game. With his team, however, he was eliminated from the current competition with zero points in the group stage. In the Taça de Portugal , the 22- and 23-year-olds were similar to the league, although he only made irregular appearances here. With the team he made it to the semi-finals in this case, where the team was defeated by SC Braga with a total score of 1: 4 on the two legs. William Jebor scored the only goal of his team in the second leg against the team from Braga in the 46th minute after Ukra assist; previously, among other things, he had already contributed an assist in a league cup game. In the sometimes quite dense final table it was enough for Jebor and Rio Ave FC in the end for tenth place in the table, whereupon he was immediately awarded to the Spanish second division team SD Ponferradina in July 2015 in order to collect more match practice . With the Spaniards , for whom he is available for the entire 2015/16 season , he made his competitive debut in the first round of the championship in a 2-0 win over FC Elche when he was coached by José Manuel Díaz in the 70th minute of play José Andrés Rodríguez Gaitán , known as Andy , was substituted on.

With his move to the Spanish second division, the Liberian, who made his debut for the senior national team of his home country in 2011, but had not played in this for years, had a breakthrough in the national team. From this time he was regularly called up for the Liberian national team, where he acted very dangerous goal in his games. In the league, however, missions, especially longer ones, were largely absent. After Jebor only appeared in six of the first eleven league games and was never on the pitch for the full game, but had contributed two assists in a short stint against Real Oviedo in round 10, he was subsequently regularly on the bench from the However, it was not used for a long time and it rarely resulted in a few minutes of use. It was only after Díaz left as head coach and the previous assistant coach Rubén Vega took over as interim coach that the situation of the Liberian improved, who from then on came regularly to his assignments and sometimes took part for the entire 90 minutes. Even after a new coach was found in Fabriciano González , called Fabri , Jebor's appearances were not lacking and he was often used over the entire game. During this time there was also another assist in a 1-0 win over CD Numancia , as well as his first league goal in a 2-1 win over SD Huesca .

However, since Fabri could not bring the strongly relegation-threatened club out of the relegation zone, this was dismissed after four defeats in five consecutive games and replaced again by assistant coach Rubén Vega. However, this only took him into account irregularly and gave way to other players. To date (as of May 19, 2016), William Jebor has played in 22 of the 38 league games to date, contributing one goal and three assists, and is currently ranked 18th with the team and thus just before the relegation zone. In the Copa del Rey 2015/16 Jebor was used in two games and on December 3, 2015 scored a goal in the 3-0 first leg win over SD Eibar in the round of 32; after the 4-0 defeat in the second leg, the team was eliminated from the current tournament.

National team career

William Jebor gained his first experience in the senior national team of his home country in 2011, when he was brought into the Liberian national squad for the first time by Italian Roberto Landi . He made his debut on March 26, 2011 in a 2: 4 defeat against Cape Verde in the third group match of the qualifying for the 2012 African Cup , when he was on the lawn for the full game. The team then retired as the last of Group A prematurely from the current qualification. It then took over four years before William Jebor was called up again for the Liberian national soccer team. After he had made the leap to Europe and had found work for the Portuguese first division club Rio Ave FC, but mostly only acted as a substitute there, James Debbah brought him back to the national team to qualify for the 2017 African Cup . Here he was on the field on June 14, 2015 in the 1: 2 defeat against Togo for the full duration of the game and scored the 1: 0 opening goal in the 43rd minute with a long-range shot. In the subsequent qualifying game against Tunisia , a 1-0 win on September 5, 2015, Jebor was used for the entire 90 minutes.

After his loan move to the Spanish second division, he had his real breakthrough in the national team when he scored all four goals of his team in the 4-2 win against Guinea-Bissau in the first round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup . He scored the only goal of his team in the 1-1 draw in the first leg and a hat trick in the 3-1 win in the second leg. Just a month later, Liberia left the current qualifying phase early after losing 4-0 home and away against Ivory Coast in the second round ; Jebor was in action in both games. After he was not in the official squad in the 1-0 in the first leg of the third qualifying game for the 2017 African Cup of Nations against Djibouti , James Debbah uses him for the full game in the 5-0 success in the second leg. Here William Jebor scored another flawless hat trick on March 29, 2016 and has so far been used in at least eight international matches in which he scored as many goals.
