The Egyptian Premier League 2012/13 is the 56th season of the Egyptian Premier League , the highest Egyptian championship in football since its inception in 1948/49 .

Participating teams

A total of 64 different teams took part in the championship since 1948/49 , but only al Ahly Kairo and al Zamalek SC managed to take part in all championships.

On July 11, 2013, the Egyptian Premier League was interrupted due to the unstable political situation in Egypt, as Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi was deposed from the military on July 3, 2013 , which sparked mass protests .

The 18 teams were divided into two groups of nine teams each, which will be played in the return leg, but this round was not ended. The group winners and runners-up would have qualified for the championship play-off, the teams in ranks 7 to 9 would have had to compete in the relegation for relegation. All four participants in the championship play-offs as well as al-Ittihad Al-Sakndary and El-Entag El-Harby as participants in the relegation were already determined.
