The Egyptian Premier League 1978/79 was the 23rd season of the Egyptian Premier League , the highest Egyptian championship in football . Champion became al Ahly Cairo for the 15th time , the number of teams was reduced from 14 to 12. Due to the increase to 16 teams, there were no relegated teams. Ala'ab Damanhour was new to the league .
