William Rowland Richardson (born March 25, 1929 in Taizhou , Jiangsu , China ) is a former American officer and general in the US Army , who was between 1983 and 1986 commander of the Army Command for Training and Operations Training and Development TRADOC ( US Army Training and Doctrine Command ) was.

Life

William Rowland Richardson, whose parents worked as missionaries in China who graduated from US Military Academy in West Point and, after its completion in 1951 as a lieutenant (Second Lieutenant) of the infantry in the US Army adopted. He then served first in the 24th Infantry Division ( 24th Infantry Division ) , which was stationed as an occupation force in Japan . In 1953 he was transferred to South Korea and took part with the 32nd Infantry Regiment of the 7th Infantry Division ( 7th Infantry Division ) in the Korean Warpart. For his service in the Korean War he was awarded in 1953 as a lieutenant (First Lieutenant) for the first time the Silver Star . After the end of the Korean War, he was employed in numerous positions as an officer and staff officer. He also graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College , the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) and studied at George Washington University , which he completed with a master's degree.

1966 Richardson became the commander of the 9th Infantry Division ( 9th Infantry Division ) belonging to the 3rd Battalion of the 39th Infantry Regiment and transferred with this during the Vietnam War to South Vietnam . For his achievements during this time he was awarded a second Silver Star and the Legion of Merit for the first time . Later he was Assistant Chief of Staff (G-3) of the 9th Infantry Division. He then served as a Lieutenant Colonel (Lieutenant Colonel) from 1969 to 1970 in the office of the Chief of Staff of the Army ( Chief of Staff of the Army ) , General William Westmoreland , and received this another Legion of Merit. He then returned as a Colonel (Colonel) in June 1971 as commander of the 23rd Infantry Division ( 23rd Infantry Division ) , the so-called "Americal Division", belonging to the 198th Infantry Brigade (198th Infantry Brigade) back to Vietnam. He was honored for the third time with the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his services during this time . After he was last Chief of Staff of the 23rd Infantry Division, he became Assistant Commandant of the US Army Infantry School in Fort Benning in 1972 . He then acted between December 1974 and June 1977 as the commander of the 193rd Infantry Brigade in the Panama Canal Zone and then from 1977 to 1979 as Director of Requirements in the Staff of the Army .

Following was Lieutenant General (Lieutenant General) William Richardson, succeeding Lieutenant General Roy Thurman between 9 October 1979, and its replacement by Lt. Gen. Howard F. Stone on August 23, 1981 Commander of the Combined Army Center USACAC (US Army Combined Arms Center) and Commander of the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth . He was then from 1981 to 1983 Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans (Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans) . After his retirement, William R. Richardson served as Vice President, Army Programs at Burdeshaw Associates, Ltd , from 1986 to 1995, and subsequently became its senior partner. He has also served on the board of directors of the National Infantry Foundation , a senior partner and board member of O'Connell and Associates , a defense consulting firm. In 1999 he received the Doughboy Award from the Infantry Center and in February 2007 a member of the Board of Trustees of the Command and General Staff College Foundation. In 2008 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Fort Leavenworth.
