Life
After completing his stonemason apprenticeship in 1922, he studied at the building trade school and at the art school in Berlin. Wendland held a number of offices during the National Socialist period: "Consultant for NS art" in the Prussian Ministry of Culture, Reich consultant for the fine arts of the German Christians , co-founder of the Protestant Reich Office for Church Art ; Member of the Kampfbund for German Culture ; Managing Director of the Association for Religious Art; Initiator of the Berlin exhibition German Settling and Symbolic Building and around 1938 managing director of the Association for Religious Art.
In 1941 he was called up for military service and was taken prisoner by the French , from which he returned in 1947. From 1949 to 1953 he worked in the building department of the Evangelical Consistory Berlin-Brandenburg and in 1953 became a church building officer in Potsdam. He held this position until 1966.
