Wittorf is located in the southwest of Neumünster on the sander plain of the Holstein Geestrücken ( Holstein Vorgeest ) in the area of ​​the so-called Neumünster meltwater plain . Sturgeon and swallow flow through the district in their glacial valleys and unite on the south-western border of the district. The Wührenbek flows into the Stör in Wittorf.

  • the Boostedter road to the east,
  • the B 205 or the city limits in the south,
  • the Hamburg-Neumünster railway line in the northwest,

In the southwest of the district, near the confluence of the sturgeon and swallow, is the Wittorf Castle . The Wittorf Castle was an important medieval defense system of the Saxons against the Wends in the course of the Limes Saxoniae .

Altona-Kieler Chaussee (later Bundesstraße 4 ) leads east of the town center towards Brokenlande / Altona / Hamburg. At the time the road was built (1830/32), Altona was the second largest city in the entire Danish state .

On a death march at the end of April 1945 from the grounds of today's Fuhlsbüttel correctional facility to Kiel, the SS shot and killed Fuhlsbüttel police sergeant Hartmann and the French Jew Maurice Sachs in Wittorfer Feld. A memorial plaque was put up in 2017.

Sports

The sports club Blau-Weiss Wittorf Neumünster , founded in 1912, is based in Wittorf . Teams of the club were national champions in handball in the 1980s .

The handball department plays today together with the Free Turnerschaft Neumünster (FTN) in the game community Blau-Weiss-Wittorf / FTN ( SG Wift , whose first men's team plays in the Hamburg - Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga ).
