Wittorf is a district of Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein that was incorporated in 1938 .
geography
Wittorf is located in the southwest of Neumünster on the sander plain of the Holstein Geestrücken ( Holstein Vorgeest ) in the area of the so-called Neumünster meltwater plain . Sturgeon and swallow flow through the district in their glacial valleys and unite on the south-western border of the district. The Wührenbek flows into the Stör in Wittorf.
The district is bounded by:
- the Boostedter road to the east,
- the B 205 or the city limits in the south,
- the Hamburg-Neumünster railway line in the northwest,
- the Neumünster-Bad Segeberg railway line in the northeast.
history
In the southwest of the district, near the confluence of the sturgeon and swallow, is the Wittorf Castle . The Wittorf Castle was an important medieval defense system of the Saxons against the Wends in the course of the Limes Saxoniae .
Altona-Kieler Chaussee (later Bundesstraße 4 ) leads east of the town center towards Brokenlande / Altona / Hamburg. At the time the road was built (1830/32), Altona was the second largest city in the entire Danish state .
On a death march at the end of April 1945 from the grounds of today's Fuhlsbüttel correctional facility to Kiel, the SS shot and killed Fuhlsbüttel police sergeant Hartmann and the French Jew Maurice Sachs in Wittorfer Feld. A memorial plaque was put up in 2017.
economy
The former leather factory Emil Köster , from 1920 Adler & Oppenheimer AG, from 1942 Norddeutsche Lederwerke - was at least partly in Wittorf territory. Wittorf already owned a large industrial company before it was incorporated into Neumünster. Today the area is part of the “ Fehmarnstrasse industrial area ”. Larger retail spaces are adjacent in the area of Grüner Weg and Altonaer Straße . Local amenities are mainly located near the historic center of the village (Lindenstrasse, Padenstedter Landstrasse).
In the southern outskirts of the district, the industrial area south , which has been expanded several times, has been created since the 1970s . For example, one of the 22 freight mail centers of Deutsche Post AG and a factory of the former Sauer Getriebe are located here, today Sauer-Danfoss . The McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Neumünster (DOC) opened on September 20, 2012.
The recycling center of Stadtwerke Neumünster is located to the west of Altonaer Strasse near the south industrial area .
Education and culture
For many years, the main educational institution was the Wittorf primary and secondary school at Lindenstrasse 1. The main school section was dissolved in 2012/13 (now: Wittorf primary school ).
In 1904 the unity choir was founded. Today the association is called Chor Einigkeit Wittorf - Gesangverein von 1904 eV From 1948 onwards, carnival was celebrated in Wittorf as part of the singing association Einigkeit . Since 1993 the carnival department has been independent as the Karnevals-Gesellschaft Wittorf eV .
Hamanns Gasthof served as a cultural and social venue for over a century . The building located at the Schwale in the center of the village was built in 1903 and demolished in 2010 in favor of residential construction.
Sports
The sports club Blau-Weiss Wittorf Neumünster , founded in 1912, is based in Wittorf . Teams of the club were national champions in handball in the 1980s .
The handball department plays today together with the Free Turnerschaft Neumünster (FTN) in the game community Blau-Weiss-Wittorf / FTN ( SG Wift , whose first men's team plays in the Hamburg - Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga ). Blau-Weiss-Wittorf is mainly known for its badminton department , which plays in the 1st Bundesliga.
There is also the TC NMS-Wittorf tennis club .
Parish
The Ev.-Luth has existed since 1966 . Johannes parish in Neumünster in Wittorf. The Protestant Christians from Padenstedt -Kamp also belong to it.
The Johanneskirche community belongs to the Ev.-Luth. Church district Altholstein and the North Elbian Ev.-Luth. Church. There is a regional cooperation with the communities Vicelin from Neumünster as well as Großenaspe and Boostedt.
In addition to the sporting activities, the Wittorf youth camp and the parish offer general child and youth work as well as scout work for children and young people.
