Wolfgang Roth (politician, 1941)
Wolfgang Roth (born January 26, 1941 in Schwäbisch Hall , † July 4, 2021 in Bonn ) was a German economist, manager and politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
After graduating from high school, Roth studied economics in Tübingen and at the Free University of Berlin , where he held the office of AStA chairman and that of Berlin state chairman in the Association of German Student Associations (VDS) in 1964 . He finished his studies in 1968 with a degree in economics.
Roth worked from 1968 to 1970 as a research assistant at the municipal science center of the German Association of Cities in Berlin and then worked as a commercial clerk at Neue Heimat in Hamburg until 1973 . Later he was a member of the supervisory and administrative boards of various banks and companies. From 1993 to 2006 he was Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg . On July 4, 2021, Wolfgang Roth died in Bonn at the age of 80.
Political party
Roth joined the SPD in 1962 and was initially involved in the Social Democratic University Association . From 1969 to 1972 he was deputy and finally from 1972 to 1974 federal chairman of the Jusos . From 1973 to 1979 and from 1982 to 1991 he was a member of the party executive committee of the SPD.
MP
Roth was elected to the German Bundestag for the first time in 1976 via the state list of the SPD Baden-Württemberg . There he was the economic policy spokesman for the SPD and from 1981 to 1991 deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. After being appointed Vice President of the European Investment Bank, Wolfgang Roth resigned from the Bundestag on September 2, 1993.
