Wolfgang Stefinger (born April 20, 1985 in Munich ) is a German politician ( CSU ). He has been a member of the German Bundestag since September 22, 2013 and represents the Munich-East constituency .

Life and work

He grew up in the Munich district of Waldperlach with three younger brothers. In 2001 he graduated from secondary school in Munich. In 2003, he acquired at the Municipal Technical School of Economics, Administration and Legal Affairs college entrance . After his community service in the retirement and nursing (2003/2004) He graduated from the University of Applied Sciences Munich to study business administration , which he described as Dipl.- Business Administration graduated (FH). From 2009 to 2011 he was research assistant at the University of Munich. In 2011 he was at the Tyrolean private university UMIT ( Hall in Tirol ) for Dr. phil. doctorate with a cooperative, cumulative doctoral thesis consisting of two articles and a cover chapter. From 2011 until his election to the German Bundestag, Stefinger worked as a consultant for a health insurance company . Stefinger is Roman Catholic and single.

Political career

At a young age, Stefinger was active in the parish youth. In 1999 he became a member of the Junge Union (JU), two years later he joined the Christian Social Union (CSU). From 2008 to 2014 he was a member of the Ramersdorf-Perlach district committee, where he was deputy spokesman for the CSU parliamentary group. Since 2009 he has been the local chairman of the CSU Waldperlach and deputy CSU district chairman (district association Munich-East). From 2009 to 2011 Stefinger headed the JU district association in Munich. Before that, he held the office of JU district chairman for Munich East for six years.

At the CSU nomination assembly in 2012 in the Bundestag constituency of Munich East, Stefinger prevailed in a vote against the then city councilor Robert Brannekämper , who is now a member of the state parliament. In the following federal election in 2013 , Stefinger won the direct mandate with 44.7 percent of the first votes and thus achieved the best first vote result in the Bavarian capital. In that legislative period he was the second youngest CSU member of the CSU state group and the successor to Herbert Frankenhauser , who was no longer running. For the 2017 federal election, Stefinger was nominated again by his party as a direct candidate for the Munich-East constituency in July 2016 and again won the constituency with the best CSU first-vote result in Munich with 36.8 percent.

In the 18th electoral term Stefinger was a full member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment and a deputy member of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth . He was also a member of the Civic Engagement Subcommittee .
During the debate on a third aid package for Greece in the summer of 2015, Stefinger spoke out against the start of negotiations with the Hellenic Republic and voted against both the start of negotiations and the third aid package. Stefinger was one of the 63 CDU / CSU MPs who did not follow the federal government on this issue.

In the new 19th electoral term, Stefinger is still on the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment as well as a deputy in the Budget Committee and also became a full member of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development . Since the end of April 2018 he has been the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group Southern Africa of the German Bundestag.

Stefinger was a member of the 16th Federal Assembly that elected Frank-Walter Steinmeier as the new Federal President on February 12, 2017 .

In spring 2016, Stefinger also took part in the debate about the demolition of the market stalls on Wiener Platz in Munich, planned by the Munich city council . More than 8,000 signatures for the preservation of the traditional market stalls were collected and a referendum was considered. At the beginning of June 2016, Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter announced that the market stalls on Wiener Platz would be retained and renovated. On February 4, 2017, on Stefinger's initiative, the Friends of the Viktualienmarkt association was founded , and he was elected 1st chairman. The association is committed to maintaining the Viktualienmarkt in the heart of Munich's old town, for which the city administration has similar modernization plans.

In 2019, Stefinger successfully fought against the full taxation of the monetary benefit for company apartments in order to counteract the housing shortage in metropolitan areas . On its cross-party initiative, the Bundestag decided at the end of 2019 to apply a valuation discount to the local comparable rent of a third.
