Wolfram Arthur Guenther (born July 7, 1929 in Dresden ; † April 8, 2020 in Munich ) was a German actor .

Live and act

Wolfram A. Guenther was the son of Leonore Günther (1896 Manchester - 1976 Dresden), b. Uhle, (former Luther) and Arthur Günther († 1956 Dresden) were born in the Dresden district of Mickten . He had two brothers, Siegfried Luther (1922–2006), a car mechanic and designer, and Manfred Luther (1925–2004) constructivist, artist and philosopher. From Easter 1935 to 1943 Wolfram A. Guenther attended primary school in Dresdner- Trachau . Guenther's grandfather ran the cardboard box factory of the confectionery company "Schmorl". In this spirit, W. Guenther learned the profession of a cook in the restaurant of the Neustädter Bahnhof. During the war years, he provided the refugees passing through with hot food, mostly soups, on the platforms. During the attack on Dresden he stood on the roof and cleared away the falling phosphorus bombs and similar flammable things with a shovel. After completing his acting training in Dresden, Meißen and Wiesbaden, Guenther began his first engagement at the Theater von Ballenstedt in the Harz region. From 1951 obligations to Wiesbaden, Munich (Residenztheater) and Frankfurt followed .

In 1954, Guenther emigrated under complicated circumstances (as a ship's cook) to Brazil, where he played in German and Portuguese. At times he directed the German Theater Caixa in São Paulo and also played in Rio de Janeiro . Because of linguistic difficulties, he changed his native family name Günther to Guenther. In 1968 he returned to Germany and took part in the Munich cabaret “Die Onion”. Since then he has made guest appearances at many German theaters and toured South and South West Africa with The Broken Krug and Die Physiker

Occasionally the mime also directed, made radio and performed in cabaret. The man from Dresden only appeared in front of the camera late in 1968. Guenther has worked in numerous television productions and has also taken on guest roles in ZDF crime series such as Derrick , Der Alte , Siska , Die Wache and Forsthaus Falkenau . This was also the case in the 2005 Rosamunde Pilcher film adaptation Above the Clouds , after he had already played a small role in the Pilcher film Stormy Encounter in 1993. In all these years he did not forget his relatives in the GDR. By sending so-called western parcels.

The man from Dresden remained loyal to the theater and appeared on large and small stages in cities such as Bonn and Munich. In the play My Fair Lady he played as Major Pickering in the open air theater in Augsburg. In 2008 he celebrated his 60th stage anniversary. As a teacher Schnauz in the Feuerzangenbowle (2004-2016) he shone again and again and celebrated his 70th stage anniversary in 2018.

Wolfram A. Guenther celebrated his 90th birthday in seclusion on July 7, 2019 in Munich. On March 11, 2020, he was hit by a car and seriously injured. After an initially successful operation, he died in the Bogenhausen Hospital (Munich) from the consequences of the accident and his poor general condition. Due to the corona crisis, he died without assistance on April 8, 2020. Many old actors came to the urn burial. B. Juta Kammann, Horst Lettenmayer and former colleagues from the comedy of the Bayerischer Hof. His urn was buried in the Nordfriedhof (Munich) . Not far from Johannes Heester's final resting place . Günther adored him to go there, because of his 108 years, he wanted to achieve this.
