history

Pilgrimage church Maria Wolschart, behind it the older wooden chapel

The place name Wolschart is derived from Wolveshart (wolf forest). When the Franziszeische Cadastre was drawn up, there were no houses in the area of today's town, only the wooden Maria Wohlschart chapel . In addition, a small pilgrimage church (Maria Wolschart or Maria Seven Pain) was built in 1843. Well-attended pilgrimages to the church took place on Marian holidays and especially on Annentag . A sacristan's house (house number 1) was built near the church in 1849, the sacristan also worked as a host. Another residential building was built next to it (house number 3). About 250 m northwest of it, near the Gurkufer , another house was built (house number 2) and finally there has also been a house there since the second half of the 20th century directly on the Gurk (house number 4).

Initially located in the tax community of Dielach , the place belonged to the tax district Osterwitz in the first half of the 19th century . When the local congregations were formed in the course of the reforms after the 1848/49 revolution, Wolschart came to the Pfannhof community and, when it was dissolved, to the Meiselding community . In the course of the municipal structural reform in Carinthia, the village of Wolschart was attached to the municipality of Sankt Georgen am Längsee in 1972; the cadastral boundaries were also changed, so that the place was now in the area of the cadastral municipality of St. Georgen am Längsee.
