The Worldchampion Jet is a catamaran- built fast ferry operated by the Greek shipping company Seajets .

history

The ship was built at Austal Ships in Henderson, Australia, as the fifth of a total of seven Auto Express 86 sister ships .

Villum Clausen (2000-2018)

The ship was named after Villum Clausen , one of the Bornholm freedom fighters who rebelled against the Swedes after the Peace of Roskilde in 1658. It was completed in November 1999 and brought by Austal Ships for the transfer to Denmark under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau . From January to March 2000 the ship was transferred from Fremantle to Rønne . On April 13, 2000 she was delivered to BornholmsTrafikken and started sailing under the Danish flag with her home port of Rønne.

When it was transferred to Denmark in February 2000, the ship covered 1,063 nm (1,969 km) between Sumatra and Cochin from February 16 to 17, reaching a maximum speed of 47.7 kn (88 km / h) ) and an average speed of 44.29 kn (82 km / h). It broke the existing record for the longest distance traveled by a ship in 24 hours.

The ferry was put into service on May 14, 2000 and used on the route between Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm and Ystad in Sweden .

After BornholmerFærgen put the fast ferry Leonora Christina into operation in May 2011 , the Villum Clausen only served as a reserve ferry. She also worked on weekends to reinforce the high season. On August 25, 2018, the ship last operated the route between Ystad and Rønne.

Worldchampion Jet (since 2018)

The ship was sold to Seajets in December 2017 and was handed over in September 2018. In September 2018 it was renamed Worldchampion Jet and brought under the flag of Cyprus .

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by two gas turbines (type: GE LM 2500) with 18,000 kW each. The gas turbines act on four swiveling water jet drives via reduction gears . The cruising speed of the ship is 41  knots (approx. 74 km / h) with 485 t DWT and 85% engine power (MCR), the maximum speed is 50 knots (approx. 90 km / h). The drive with gas turbines was chosen in addition to the required power in order to comply with the Danish exhaust gas regulations. The ship was the first ship built in the southern hemisphere with a gas turbine drive. Four generators powered by Volvo Penta diesel engines (type: TAMD 163 A) are available to generate electricity .

The vehicle deck is equipped with two intermediate decks (mezzanine deck), which are attached to the port and starboard side. The height of the vehicle deck is 4.4 m between the two intermediate decks, 2.2 m below the intermediate decks and 2.0 m on top.
