Yangel Clemente Herrera Ravelo (born January 7, 1998 in La Guaira ) is a Venezuelan football player who has been with the English first division club Manchester City since February 2017 . The defensive midfielder has been a Venezuelan international since October 2016 .

Career

society

Herrera comes from Atlético Venezuela's youth work before joining Monagas SC in January 2015 . He returned to Atlético just a year later and made his debut on January 31, 2016 in a 2-1 home win against the Estudiantes de Mérida . On March 5, he met in the 3-3 away draw against Aragua FC for the first time in the top Venezuelan division . In the 2016 season he was used in 28 games, in which he collected three goals and four assists.

On January 31, 2017, Yangel Herrera moved to the English first division club Manchester City and was immediately loaned out to partner club New York City FC in Major League Soccer for two years . He played his first game on March 12 (2nd matchday) in a 4-0 home win against DC United . On April 30, he scored his first goal in a 3-2 away win against Columbus Crew and prepared a goal in this game. In 20 league games he scored one goal and prepared two more goals. In his second season in 2018 , he rose to become an undisputed regular player, but had to pause 20 league games from June to October 2018 due to an ankle injury. He finished the MLS season with 18 league appearances. The season 2018/19 he ended then the Spanish first division club SD Huesca , where he was deployed in 16 league games. After the team's relegation, he returned to the Citizens in summer 2019 .

For the 2019/20 season, he moved again on loan to the Spanish La Liga promoted FC Granada . He made his debut on September 1, 2019 (3rd matchday) in a 3-0 away win against Espanyol Barcelona . In the 2-0 away win against Celta Vigo on Matchday 4, he scored for the first time for Granada. During this season he played 30 league games in which he scored two goals and three assists.

National team

In 2015, Yangel Herrera played four appearances for the Venezuelan U17 national team at the U17 South American Championship in 2015 , in which he scored four times.

He then took part with the U20s in the 2017 U20 South American Championship , where he captained his team in seven games in which he scored two goals. At the 2017 U20 World Cup in South Korea , he was also the captain of his team and reached the final of the tournament with them. With the decisive goal to 1-0 in the 108th minute of the game, he shot his country against Japan in the quarter-finals. The final against England was then lost 1-0, but this was the best result in the only second participation of a Venezuelan U-20 national team in a final round.

Herrera made his debut on October 10, 2016 in the 2-0 away defeat against Brazil in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup for the Venezuelan A-selection . On October 11, 2017, he scored his first international goal in a 1-0 away win in qualifying against Paraguay .

In June 2019 he took part with Venezuela in the Copa America 2019 in Brazil , where he played in three games and failed with his country in the quarter-finals against Argentina .
