The Yavuz is a Turkish deep - drilling vessel . The state-owned gas and oil company Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) is the owner and operator .

The ship was designed by the Dutch company GustoMSC . It belongs to the P10.000 type of which 16 units were built. It was built under construction number 2228 at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan in South Korea . The keel was laid on April 19, 2010, the launch on August 27, 2010. The completion of the ship took place on 22 June 2011. It came as Deepsea Metro I going.

The Deepsea Metro I was deployed off Tanzania (2012 and 2014) and off Kenya (2014). Then she drilled off Vietnam (2015) and the Philippines (2017). After that, she did not fulfill any further exploration contracts and was unemployed in Malaysia .

In 2018, the Turkish TPAO bought the ship for USD 262.5 million. It was transferred to Turkey and refitted in the port of Yalova near Istanbul . The ship was renamed Yavuz .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by diesel-electric technology . Propulsion for the two are azimuth thruster each with 5,000  kW power available. This achieves 12  knots . In addition to the propeller pods for propulsion, the ship also has four other propeller pods, each with an output of 5,000 kW as a positioning system , which can be retracted individually.

Eight MAN diesel generators are available for power generation: six are driven by MAN diesel engines of the type 9L32 / 40CD with an output of 4,300 kW each, two by MAN diesel engines of the type 18V32 / 40CD with an output of 8,700 kW each. In addition, an emergency generator with an output of 1,500 kW was installed.

The ship's job is to drill deep-sea. There is also a 39 meter high derrick in the middle of the ship. The ship can drill in water depths of up to 3,600 meters.
