Yeonju Sarah Kim ( Korean 김연주 ; born January 27, 1981 in Busan , South Korea ) is a South Korean church musician who mainly works as an organist in Salzburg .

Life

Kim was born in 1981 in the city of Busan, South Korea, and began playing the piano at the age of four . She studied at the Kyungsung University there with Chung Kyungnim and at the Yonsei University in Seoul at Cho Myungja the subjects organ and church music . She worked as an organist at the Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul. Kim earned both bachelor and master degrees with distinction. Also with honors, she completed her master's degree in organ concert at the Mozarteum Salzburg in 2013 with Heribert Metzger , cathedral organist in Salzburg. At the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich , she took part in the advanced certificate course in master classes with Bernhard Haas in 2014 . In addition, she trained in master classes with André Isoir , Piet Kee , Bernhard Leonardy , Martin Sander , Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini and Harald Vogel . Today Kim studies the harpsichord at the Mozarteum with Florian Birsak and works as an organist at various Salzburg churches.

  • 2nd place at the International Organ Competition Wuppertal 2013
  • 2nd shared place at the 5th International Franz Schmidt Organ Competition in Kitzbühel 2014 (if 1st place is not awarded)
  • Winner of the 5th Daniel Herz International Organ Competition in Brixen 2016
