Systematics
The species was first described as Vitis thomsonii by Marmaduke Alexander Lawson in 1875 . In 1990, Chao Luang Li added her to the genus Yua as Yua thomsonii . There are 2 varieties:
- Yua thomsonii var. Thomsonii : Small twigs, petioles, leaf upper side, inflorescence axis, flower stalk and petals are hairless. The underside of the leaf is hairless or thinly downy on the leaf veins. The variety blooms from May to June and fruit from July to September. It occurs in India, Nepal and China (Anhui, southwest Fujian , Guangxi , southeast Guizhou , Hubei , Hunan , Jiangsu , Jiangxi , southeast Sichuan , Taiwan and Zhejiang ) in hillside forests at altitudes of 200 to 1300 meters.
- Yua thomsonii var. Glaucescens ( Diels & Gilg ) CLLi : This variety has hairs on at least the leaf veins on the underside of the leaf. Yua thomsonii var. Glaucescens flowers from April to June and fruit from August to October. The variety occurs in China in the provinces of Guizhou , Henan , Hubei, Sichuan and Yunnan on slopes and in valleys at altitudes of 1700 to 2700 meters.
