The Yunga district is located in the General Sánchez Cerro Province in the Moquegua region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on March 19, 1965. It has an area of 111 km². The 2017 census counted 941 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 658, in 2007 it was 1570. The district administration is located in the 3571 m high village of Yunga with 590 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yunga is located 61 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Omate .
Geographical location
The district of Yunga is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica, centrally in the province of General Sánchez Cerro. The Río Tambo flows along the northwestern district boundary to the southwest.
The district of Yunga borders in the southeast and in the south on the district Lloque , in the northwest on the district Ubinas and in the northeast on the district Ichuña .
