Yusuf Altıntaş (born August 7, 1961 in Köseköy ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul , he is strongly associated with this association. During his playing days he was called Rambo Yusuf because of his aggressive and physical style of play . Two other names were Büyük Yusuf or Köylü Yusuf .
Player career
society
Altıntaş started with club football in the youth of Köseköy Belediyespor and then moved to the youth of Kocaelispor in 1980 . Here he was discovered for the Turkish U-18 national team and played three games here. In the summer he was accepted into the professional team and quickly fought for a regular place. He played four seasons at Kocaelispor and made it to the national team here.
In the summer of 1984 he moved to Galatasaray Istanbul . At this point, Galatasaray had lost touch with the other top teams and was more of a follower. After the last championship in the season 1972/73 they tried in vain to build on these successes. For the upcoming season, surprisingly, the resigned national coach Jupp Derwall was signed . He tried to form a new team with young and untrained players. The newly acquired player Altıntaş was one of these players. In his first season he completed 19 league encounters and won the Turkish Football Cup with his club . In his second season he finally made his breakthrough. From then on, he was one of the permanent players within the team for several years. In the 1985/86 season they lost the championship of the worse goal difference to Beşiktaş Istanbul . The next season the long-awaited success came and they won the championship of the Süper Lig for the first time after 14 years . After this success, Derwall announced his resignation and handed over his coaching position to his assistant coach Mustafa Denizli . He also relied on Altıntaş. The following season they won the championship again, this time with a record number of 90 points. To Beşiktaş, second in the table, they achieved a point difference of 12 points. In the 1988/89 season they missed the championship far behind. This caused a sensation on the international stage. At that time it was common for Turkish teams to be eliminated in the first two rounds of European Cup competitions. Galatasaray made it to the semi-finals of the 1988/89 European Cup . In terms of the club's history, the second leg against Neuchâtel Xamax in particular is considered legendary. First they lost the first leg 3-0 in the second round. The second leg in Istanbul was sensationally won 5-0 and made it to the quarter-finals of the European Cup . Here you met the reigning French champions AS Monaco . Again, they surprisingly prevailed and were only eliminated in the semi-finals against Steaua Bucharest . Altıntaş played most of these matches over the full distance. Despite these successes, the club's management decided to replace Denizli with the German coach Sigfried Held . This fell far short of expectations and often left Altıntaş on the bench. So the club's management reacted again and committed Mustafa Denizli a second time for the 1990/91 season . Under Denizli Altıntaş came back to regular missions. The championship was awarded to Beşiktaş, but could win the Turkish Football Cup and the Turkish Football Supercup . The next season you could win the Turkish Football Cup again. In the championship they finished third in the table. In the 1991/92 European Cup Winners' Cup , they made it to the quarter-finals and were eliminated from the eventual cup winners Werder Bremen . In the end, the club's management reacted and did not renew the contract with Denizli. Instead, a new coach, Karl-Heinz Feldkamp, was hired . He turned the team upside down according to his own ideas and replaced many seasoned players with young, unknown players. However, Feldkamp did not renounce the services of Altıntaş and used him 22 times in league games. At the end of the season, after winning the championship and the Turkish Football Cup after 1973, the double again succeeded . At the end of the season, Feldkamp announced his resignation and was replaced by his assistant coach Reiner Hollmann . He put Altıntaş on the bench at the beginning of the season and only used him sporadically. At the end of the season they won the championship again and made it into the last eight teams in the 1993/94 UEFA Champions League . At the end of the season, Altıntaş was advised either to retire or to move.
So Altıntaş moved back to Kocaelispor in the summer of 1994 . Here he played a season, but did not make it into the regular formation. So he moved to the end of the season for the amateur club Kocaeli Kartepe Belediyespor . Here he played a season and then ended his active football career.
National team
Altıntaş already played three times for the Turkish U-18 national team during his Kocael time. Then he came several times for the Turkish U-21 national team to use. In 1983 he was nominated for the first time for the Turkish national team and made his international debut on March 9, 1983 during a friendly against the Romanian selection . From then on he was one of the players who, with a few exceptions, were regularly appointed to the national team. He played for Turkey in the qualifying rounds of the 1984 European Championship , the 1986 World Championship , the 1988 European Championship , the 1990 World Championship and the 1992 European Championship . He completed a total of 29 games for the Ay-Yıldızlılar , scoring two goals.
Coaching career
After the end of his active career, Altıntaş was quiet for a long time. It was not until the summer of 2005 that he took over the position of assistant coach at Kocaelispor and thus assisted Sadi Tekelioğlu .
From June 2007 he worked as assistant coach of his former teammate Bülent Korkmaz at Kayseri Erciyesspor . Here they missed the hoped-for relegation, but made it to the final in the Turkish Football Cup . After this success he moved to Bursaspor together with Korkmaz . After not living up to expectations, the club split up after a few weeks.
