The ZDFdokukanal was a television channel between April 1, 2000 and October 31, 2009 and part of the ZDF's digital programming . ZDFneo has taken its place .
Reception possibility
The program is nationwide via cable TV networks ( DVB-C ) and the satellite Astra ( DVB-S broadcast). In the DVB-T regions, the ZDFdokukanal was also available via antenna between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., alternating with the KiKA . It was also included in the IPTV program of some DSL providers.

The station provided background information on nature, science, history and society.
Since May 2009, the station was in a phase of conversion into a youth and family station, in which the proportion of documentaries was gradually reduced and more entertainment programs were broadcast. On August 19, 2009, the ZDF announced that the station would cease broadcasting in its current form on October 31, 2009. The ZDFdokukanal became the new target group channel ZDFneo .
Additional program offer
Since the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, ARD and ZDF have been using their digital programs EinsExtra , EinsFestival , ZDFdokukanal and ZDFinfokanal to also be able to report on the Olympic Games. This option was also used at the 2008 European Football Championship in order to be able to broadcast games taking place at the same time.
