Zelda Rubinstein
Zelda Rubinstein (born May 28, 1933 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † January 27, 2010 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .
Life
Zelda Rubinstein was born into a Jewish family of Polish origin. Rubinstein, who never grew taller than four feet, studied on a scholarship at the University of Pittsburg and later at the University of California . She worked as a laboratory technician for many years, including in London, but in middle age decided to try a creative profession. She studied acting in Berkeley and made her film debut in 1981 with a small role in the Chevy Chase comedy Secret Mission Hollywood .
Rubinstein became famous for her first major film appearance: as Tangina Barron's eccentric medium in the horror film Poltergeist from 1982. She later represented the role again in two sequels of the film. She had a recurring role in the 1990s as Ginny in the Emmy Award- winning television series Picket Fences . In total, Rubinstein played over 50 roles in film and television up until the 2000s. Many of their appearances were small, but their striking appearance - small, stocky and with a scratchy voice - very distinctive.
Rubinstein also got involved in public, for example for the rights of small people. As one of the first known personalities, she also took part in an awareness-raising spot about the immunodeficiency disease AIDS , as she had lost a good friend to the disease. She died in 2010 at the age of 76 after a heart attack.
