history

Early settlement

Roman building remains on the Römersee

The name of the place derives from its origin: The Zimmerhof was a farmstead between Bad Rappenau and Heinsheim , in which carpenters made beams and boards from the wood cut in the surrounding forest. The surrounding field names Kohlwald, Kohlrain and Kohlplatte as well as the Kohlhof go back to the also wood-processing Koehler . A manor developed from the Zimmermannshof, and over the years residential buildings have settled around it.

The oldest traces of settlement in the area of Zimmerhof date from the time of the Romans (1st to 3rd century AD), of which the foundations of the Roman villa rustica on the Römersee have been preserved. It is not known when today's manor was built.

For a long time, the farm or place shared the history of Heinsheim , so it had been under the sovereignty of the diocese of Worms since the 10th century . The first documentary mention dates back to the year 1307. From the 12th to the 17th century, the lords of Ehrenberg were feudal lords , who in addition to the fief, also acquired allodial property .

Division of the village from 1658 to 1806

The last Ehrenberg, Hans Heinrich von Ehrenberg (1580 to 1647) exchanged his property in 1637 with the lands of his cousin Johann Conrad von Helmstatt on the Main . The diocese of Worms wanted a clear separation of the now Helmstatt private property from Worms fiefdom property, but this was impossible after more than 400 years of development and amalgamation of ownership. From 1650 the imperial court of justice dealt with the matter and decided with the Ernberg Treaty of 1655 a division of the Zimmerhof into a Worms and a Helmstätter half, which was carried out in 1658.

The Wormser Hochstift opened a cellar on its half , which was later managed by the Mosbach Regional Office. On Worms initiative, the Zum Kreuz inn was also built in 1772 , which was also the transformer station for the imperial post office. The half of Helmstatt, however, gave rise to another dispute, as the heirs of Johann Conrad von Helmstatt fought over the ownership claim for over 20 years after his death in the spring of 1677, whereupon the remains of the Helmstatt were placed under imperial administration. The von Schade family later had a share in the property.

In 1803 the former Helmstätter part came to Baden , while the part of the dissolved Hochstift Worms fell to the Landgraves of Hesse . Near the ball mill, a Baden-Hessian boundary stone reminds of this late period of division into two parts. In 1805 the Barons von Racknitz acquired the Hessian part of the Zimmerhof, in 1806 the whole place came under a state treaty to the Grand Duchy of Baden .

Incorporation in 1935 and 1950

In 1935 the Zimmerhof became part of the independent community of Heinsheim and initially belonged to the Mosbach district . On April 1, 1950, Zimmerhof was reassigned to Bad Rappenau and thus became part of what was then the district of Sinsheim . Since the district reform of 1973, Bad Rappenau and its suburbs have been part of the Heilbronn district . As early as 1972, Heinsheim was also incorporated into Bad Rappenau.

The approximately 200 hectare Hofgut Zimmerhof has been leased to Südzucker AG or its predecessor since 1865 . A golf club has been operating on the site since 1989.

Strong growth since 1991

Zimmerhof was still a very small street village until the late 20th century. At the beginning of the Second World War there were about 120 inhabitants. After the Second World War, the population increased to 275 due to the influx of displaced persons and then grew to around 400 residents by 1989 due to the designation of smaller new building areas. Since then, from 1991, the 19-hectare development area hallway has arisen, the population has more than quadrupled to 2001, with around 1,900 inhabitants. The place then received a kindergarten, a new school building and in 2004 for the first time seats in the Bad Rappenau municipal council. Zimmerhof has no infrastructure worth mentioning and is mainly a place of residence for commuters from the surrounding cities and communities.
