Zorro versus Maciste - Fight of the Invincible (original title: Zorro contro Maciste ) is an Italian adventure film , a mixture of two genres, directed by Umberto Lenzi in 1962. action

After the death of Philip II, King of Navarre, his two granddaughters, the princesses Malva and Isabella, compete for his successor. The cruel and ambitious Malva fears that a will will see Isabella as heir to the throne, so she wants it to be stolen to replace it with a paper in her favor. She entrusts Maciste with the implementation of this idea, but he has to deal with Zorro, whom Isabella has called because she suspected her cousin's machinations.

After several adventures in which luck surges back and forth, Maciste succeeds in carrying out his mission. However, when he sees through that he has been used for evil purposes, he refuses to hand over the document and turns against Malva; instead of her, Isabella ascends the throne with her lover, who is none other than Zorro. Maciste rides towards new adventures.

criticism

The Monthly Film Bulletin praised Pierre Brice's performance as "consistently excellent", but found the other actors to be extremely average. Its main weakness is the lousy coloring. Ronald M. Hahn , Volker Jansen, and Norbert Stresau saw another weakness in the fact that “the film does not know which genre it belongs to”. The lexicon of international film made it very short: "Most undemanding entertainment."
