Zschillichau , Upper Sorbian , is a place in the east of the Bautzen district in Saxony and has been part of the Großdubrau community since 1994 . The place lies in the Upper Lusatia and belongs to the settlement area of the Sorbs .
geography
Zschillichau is located on the western slope of the Spree valley about nine kilometers northeast of Bautzen . While the eastern area is used for agriculture, the Großdubrau forests are in the west. In this direction, the terrain rises up to 200 meters, while the Spree floodplain east of Zschillichau is around 20 meters lower than the town.
In terms of settlement history, the place is like the neighboring Sdier a square village with the settlement core east of today's B 156. The neighboring places are Sdier in the north, Malschwitz in the southeast, Briesing in the south and Großdubrau in the west.
history
On the 158 m high Joercksberg , not far from Zschillichau, which overlooks the Spreeaue, remains of former settlements have been discovered from the Roman Empire.
The current place was first mentioned in 1360 as Czelchow (e) . This form of name has been preserved in Sorbian to this day. Other (German) forms were Schillichen (1499), Tzöhlichau (1658) and Zschilche (1733). The current form of the name was first mentioned in 1810. Until 1718 the manor was at the Malschwitz manor ; after that the Zschillichauer manor was independent.
Until 1990, there was a mobile radio measuring station of the air force of the GDR behind the Joercksberg as seen from the street. The building complex was later used as a home for asylum seekers.
Zschillichau was an independent rural community until April 1, 1936, then it was incorporated into Sdier and finally on January 1, 1994 to Großdubrau.
Population and language
The population fluctuated between 80 and 120 in the 19th and 20th centuries.
For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 137 in the 1880s; including 125 Sorbs (91%). Since then, the use of Sorbian has declined in town.
The predominantly Protestant population has been parish to Klix since at least 1614 .
Infrastructure
The federal highway 156 , which connects Bautzen with Weißwasser , runs through Zschillichau .
