Crosta , in Upper Sorbian Chróst ? / i , is a district of the community Großdubrau in the district of Bautzen in Saxony . The place belongs to the recognized Sorbian settlement area . Audio file / audio sample

geography

Crosta is located in Upper Lusatia in the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve . Surrounding villages are of the community Radibor belonging district Milkel in the north, Jetscheba and Kauppa in the Northeast, Brehmen the southeast, Großdubrau in the south and in turn belonging to the municipality Radibor districts Camina in the southwest, Lomske the west and yonder in the northwest.

The county road 7212 runs through Crosta and connects the town with Lomske, one kilometer to the east, and Großdubrau, one kilometer to the south.

history

Crosta was first mentioned in 1353 as Grust . In the following time the place name changed from Crostaw (1419) to Croste / Kroste (1461/1526) and Crusta (1541) to Crosta in 1596. In 1629 the place was recorded as Crost . From 1777 at the latest, the place was under the rule of the Milkel manor . Since the 16th century Crosta belongs to the parish Milkel.

Crosta was part of the rural community of Lomske until 1910 and then became independent. On July 25, 1952, Crosta was assigned to the then newly formed district of Bautzen . After the reunification , Crosta was incorporated into Großdubrau on January 1, 1992 , which was assigned to the old Bautzen district for the district reform on August 1, 1994 . Since the district reform in Saxony on August 1, 2008 , Crosta has been part of the Bautzen district .

Population and language

For 1777, Crosta had two possessed men , three gardeners, and five cottagers . In 1834 the place had 63 inhabitants. By 1871 the population rose to 101, after which it fell back to 95 (1890). In the following twenty years, the population rose sharply, in 1910 Crosta had 741 inhabitants. In 1925 Crosta had 680 inhabitants, of which 589 were Evangelical Lutheran and 62 were Catholics . After the Second World War , the population rose again to 758 in 1950, and has been falling again since then.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 233 inhabitants for the year 1884; 218 of them were Sorbs (94%). In 1956, Ernst Tschernik only had a Sorbian-speaking share of 20% in the Crosta community.

The place gained national fame through the local recreation center Blue Adria .
