The Opawskie Mountains , also Opawskie Mountains (Czech: Zlatohorska highlands , formerly Severní Podhoří Hrubého Jeseníku , Jindřichovské Podhoří or Opavská highlands ; Polish: Opawskie Mountains ) is a mountainous country in the northeast of the Czech Republic and southern Poland .

The mountainous region is part of the mountain range of the East Sudetes and is located in the north of Moravian-Silesia and south-east of Upper Silesia . It connects to the eastern part of the Reichensteiner Mountains ( Rychlebské hory / Góry Złote ). In the northwest it borders on the Friedeberger Bergland ( Žulovská pahorkatina / Przedgórze Paczkowskie ). To the north, the mountainous terrain falls to the Ottmachauer Depression ( Vidnavská nížina / Obniżenie Otmuchowskie ) and to the east to the Leobschützer loess hill country ( Opavská pahorkatina / Płaskowyż Głubczycki ). To the south is the Lower Jeseník ( Nízký Jeseník ) and in the southwest the Jeseníky Mountains ( Hrubý Jeseník ).

Politically, the mountains are located on the border between Poland and the Czech Republic . The Polish part belongs to the Province Oppeln and extends to the area of the cities Prudnik and Głuchołazy and the places Jarnołtówek , Pokrzywna , Łąka Prudnicka , Moszczanka , Trzebina , Skrzypiec , Dytmarów , Krzyżkowice , Dębowiec , Opawice , Lenarcice , Krasne poles , Chomiąża , Pietrowice , Ciermięcice , Pielgrzymów , Dobieszów , Gołuszowice , Zopowy , Zubrzyce , Włodzienin , Lewice , Bliszczyce and Branice . The Czech part covers 527 km² and is located in the border area between the Moravskoslezský kraj and Olomoucký kraj . In this region are u. a. the localities Zlaté Hory , Rejvíz and Mikulovice .

The rivers Elsnitz ( Olešnice / Białka ), Goldoppa ( Opawica / Opavice ), Ossa ( Osoblaha / Osobłoga ) and Prudnik ( Prudník ) have their source in the Zuckmanteler Bergland . The valley of the Biele ( Bělá / Biała Głucholaska ) forms the natural border to the Reichensteiner Mountains in the west .

Breakdown

The mountainous region is divided into three geomorphological sub-units. These are the Bělská pahorkatina ( Biela Hills ), Hynčická hornatina ( Heinzendorfer Bergland ) and the Rejvizská hornatina ( Reihwiesener Bergland ).

The Polish part, known as Góry Opawskie , does not have a homogeneous mountain structure and consists of two foothills of the Bělská pahorkatina and Hynčická hornatina separated from each other by the Ottmachauer depression. This part is divided into the six massifs Parkowa Góra , Biskupia Kopa , Olszak , Długota , Lipowiec and Graniczny Wierch according to the highest elevations .
