Zwiespalt (Weiss) is the fifth solo album by the German rapper Basstard . It was released on June 24, 2011 on the independent label Horrorkore Entertainment . After the releases of Zwiespalt (Grau) in 2008 and Zwiespalt (Schwarz) the following year, it is the last part of an album trilogy .

background

In 2008 Basstard published Zwiespalt (Grau), the first part of its "Zwiespalt" trilogy. The approach was to release three musically different albums, with Zwiespalt (Schwarz) being assigned to the hip-hop subgenre Horrorcore , while Zwiespalt (Weiss) deals with more positive topics. The pieces that do not fit into the concept of these two albums should be published on Zwiespalt (Grau) . In an interview, Basstard stated that Zwiespalt (Weiss) had been redesigned while working on the trilogy. After the basic idea was to include texts about, for example, the beauty of nature, he found that the aspects that make him up were lost. For this reason, pieces were also created for Zwiespalt (Weiss) that reproduce "horror stories". However, he made it a point to implement them differently than on his previous albums.

The work on Zwiespalt (Weiss) dragged on over a period of three to four years. Some pieces took a comparatively long time to complete. In an interview Basstard explained the production process of his album: “ That was the first time that I had to deal with my music so intensely. [ ... ] Some songs took years. I used to laugh at people when they told me something like that. Only now do I understand that it is a long process for the song to mature. I grew from it. “The first recordings were made by hip-hop producers Djorkaeff and Beatzarre . Basstard later recorded in his own studio.

The first announcement of the album's release was made by the presentation of the cover of Zwiespalt (Weiss) on the social network Facebook on April 1st, 2011. The title list was announced three weeks later.

Guest Posts

Zwiespalt (Weiss) contains a number of guest contributions by various musicians. The basic structures of the songs were created before Basstard asked for a suitable guest rapper. On front after both the rapper gynecologist and Manny Marc , which together form the duo The etching, as well as a Dystrust dark metal band, which since 2009 Horrorkore Entertainment under contract represent. Gynecologist and MC Bogy appear once more on BC Soldat . Basstard also worked with Sera Finale for the first time during the production of Zwiespalt (Weiss) . According to Basstard, he did not know Finale before the play The circle is complete . The common song was created at the suggestion of producer Djorkaeff . Since Sera Finale had ended his work as a rapper a few months before the publication of the third part of the "Zwiespalt" trilogy, Basstard proudly expressed himself about the common song.

On December 2nd, 2011 Basstard started a concert tour under the title “Weiss Tour” with a gig in Cologne. On the seven-city tour, the rapper was accompanied by his band Dystrust and Medizin Mann. The rapper DCVDNS also appeared as support in Cologne, Weinheim and Frankfurt. Basstard published a video diary in which, among other things, excerpts from the rehearsals for the tour are presented.

criticism

The website Rap.de rated the album positively. Basstard shows a further development that “ is rarely found in German hip-hop. "The editor attests the rapper an" incomparable talent for dealing with his voice. "In every song he covers a wide range of different ways of performing, whereby eternity is particularly impressive:" In line with the text, the voice seems to break in some places, only to rise angrily above the beat a few bars later and then to soft vocal flows run away. “Rap.de gave the new edition of the song Jeannie a similarly positive rating . Basstard also plays lyrically “ in the big league ”, although some rhymes are less original. With Sady K's vocals, the piece Smile contains an “ almost kitschy hook ” and, in combination with the text and the use of electric guitars, results in a “ real pop hit. “Another positive aspect is the selection of guest rappers, with whom the album was not overloaded. Nevertheless, the stanzas by Tony D, Manny Marc and the gynecologist, who greets the " Atzen from the middle class " in Forward , are emphasized negatively. Finally, the titles Stand my 'man , who is to blame? and now and immediately as pale compared to the pieces What was the reason? , Neon Light Stories , Smile , Eternity and White . In summary, Zwiespalt (Weiss) is almost a “ modern classic. "
