Interlude - Alles für den Herren is a 2002 double album by the singer Xavier Naidoo . It was his second solo album after Out of This World .

Creation and publication

Interlude - Alles für den Herren was Naidoo's second solo album and the first after his separation from the record label Pelham Power Productions (3P). The double album was originally designed for 29 songs, but in the end 15 tracks were released on each CD. The first CD entitled Interlude dealt with socially critical issues, while Naidoo devoted himself to everything for the Lord in his relationship with God. The variant of a double album with different concepts arose because Naidoo had written over time, in addition to titles that dealt with his relationship with God, also more songs that contained “personal texts about love and loss”. The originally planned single album would have been entitled Everything for the Lord .

The songs on interlude - Alles für den Herren were written between September 2000 and December 2001. The title Don't Give Up is a cover of the song by Peter Gabriel , which Naidoo sings in a duet with Yvonne Betz . If I had children , Naidoo wrote together with Curse , who also rapped in the song. Naidoo wrote and sang everything for the Lord together with Uwe Banton . Metaphysics took over the rap part on I'd Be Waiting and Sie ist im Viereck , while rapper Lunafrow can be heard on Der Geist ist willig . The songs I like to hear the things sing and song (you only, you) are based on poems by Rainer Maria Rilke . Both songs had already been published in 2001 on the CD Bis an alle Sterne of the Rilke project by Schönherz & Fleer . As a spokeswoman for the song letter is Esther pig to hear as speaker on Song (You Only You) acts Ben Becker .

On February 18, 2002, Where are you going? the first single of the album pre-coupled. Interlude - Alles für den Herren was released on March 25, 2002 and reached number 1 on the German and Austrian album charts.

On March 24, 2002 Naidoo began his club tour for the album; the tour began in Offenbach and ended after twelve concerts on April 8th in Leipzig. In September 2002 an album tour followed through Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

“The son of Mannheim celebrates earthly love on the album 'Interlude', he presents his prayers set to music on a second CD,” wrote Focus , calling Naidoo a “PR agent of God”. “'Everything for the Lord' is the familiar, even more intensive attempt to understand our world with the help of faith, and the secular CD 'Interlude' is an offer to all people who think the 30-year-old is great as a musician, but so far could not do anything with the message in his texts, ”said the Berner Zeitung . "Considered mildly, Xavier Naidoo has reached another milestone in his career with the thirty new songs, but on closer inspection he has worked out the contours of his charming figure even more sharply, which could drive the already divided camp of his supporters even further apart," wrote the Frankfurter Neue Presse . On the second CD in particular, Naidoo's pop music becomes "finally a messianic sermon", which makes it difficult to see the singer as the "romantic soul beau from part one who writes love and children's songs [...]". For Die Welt the publication was “a double pack between sacred prayer and profane pop”.

The SonntagsZeitung criticized the fact that Naidoos "are accompanied by creamy strings and buttery-soft beats with prayers [...] cloudy to the point of absolute tensionlessness." The Tagesspiegel described Naidoo as "more fanatical than ever". Naidoo presents himself “with a lot of lyrical nonsense as the righteous, who - entirely the youthful fighter - threatens counterviolence and longs for a crusade against capital and the western world.” “Because for Xavier Naidoo, even worldly affairs generally escalate into urgent questions of faith , with a total playing time of more than 140 minutes on 30 pieces, he constantly calls heaven, prays, moans, complains and like every convict he knows neither mercy, doubt nor irony, "said Harald Peters in the Berliner Zeitung . For the Basler Zeitung there was an interlude - everything for the gentleman was “heavy fare”: “A double album with thirty beautiful pieces that are almost exclusively about God - that can be annoying. Naidoo has hardly changed stylistically, still this voice, still this pathos. "

Awards

Interlude - Everything for the Lord was awarded double platinum in Germany and Switzerland; the album also achieved platinum status in Austria.

Naidoo was recognized in the MTV Europe Music Awards in the category "Best German Act" in 2002 and won the Comet in the category "Act national" in the same year . In 2004 he received the ECHO Pop in the category “Single International” for Ich kenne nothing (which is as beautiful as you) .
