About
Daniel Joseph Kim Murray is a resident of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was born on April 30, 1991 in Incheon, South Korea and was adopted by an American couple. Daniel lived his first four years in America in Birmingham, Michigan and then moved with his family to Bloomfield Hills upon the adoption of his sister. He attended preschool at Fox Hills Elementary and Kirk in the Hills. He then proceeded through elementary and middle school at The Roeper School.
As a fourth grade student Daniel founded the Reflection Commission; an organization dedicated to helping children reflect on their emotions. The organization has been recognized by several U.S. Senators, including: Carl Levin, John Kerry,, John McCain, and Debbie Stabenow. Daniel also founded a newsletter, which was published from his fourth grade year, throughout his eighth grade year.
He currently attends Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Murray is an active leader in his community of Oakland County. He has helped many of his fellow teens and has participated openly with the Oakland County Democratic Party. He is a self desribed "Christian-Conservative Democrat."
Daniel Murray is expected to choose a political vocation as an adult. His political ambitions lie as either a future Senator or President of the United States.

Gundruk is dry, fermented leaves and vegetables, used mostly to prepare an acerbic, brownish soup. This traditional method of preserving vegetables is widely followed in the Himalayan region, though Gundruk, it appears, is typically a Gorkha indigenous food, found mostly in Nepal, Sikkim, Darjeeling in West Bengal, and other Gorkha-dominant areas. The fermentation process itself depends on bacteria, particularly Lactobacillus and Pediococcus found naturally, which produce lactic acid and acetic acid from the raw vegetable matter. Leaves or radish pieces are withered and fermented in vats for some times. When fermented fullly, they are taken out and dried. The dried leaves produce Gundruk while the dried, fermented radish pieces comprise Sinki. These can be stored indefinitely. When cooking, they are first soaked in water, then sauteed with onions, garlic and tomatoes before water is added to produce a watery soup. The soup is believed to have medicinal value. Possibly the fibre and acid contents help bowel movement.

In May 2006 the Official James Bond website was updated with the Casino Royale (2006) website, which included a dossier on Agent 007 - James Bond. Including information on his parents, training and military survice before entering MI6.

The gamecommercial is not a TV-commercial, nor an online game, but the combination of the two. Isara is a charity organization located in Nong Khai, Thailand. It was started in 2002 by an American, Patrick Kirk Gillock, who hoped to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. In late 2005, after friends and family had given all the donations they could give, Kirk decided to rethink the "charity model" and decided to switch to a "business model" to help fund future charity projects.
Kirk used his background in web design to create the first non-profit website portal, http://www.isara.com . Much like other websites, money is generated from advertising. The more visits Isara receives the more funds for its various charity projects. But, what makes Isara different, is that nobody is getting rich from this idea. 100% of all funds generated go to fund the charity projects. Isara.com is similar to other web portals, it has a search engine, shopping (but guilt-free), and a forum that will make you smile with each visit. It is a website where your visits and clicks can make a difference.
Originally focusing on the less fortunate in Thailand, Isara (which means "freedom" in Thai) quickly grew and has now expanded into Nepal and Vietnam. Isara charity projects focus mainly on education and health issues. They have helped build schools, provide motorcycle helmets to nearly one thousand students, and school supplies to orphans in Thailand, Vietnam, and Nepal. Their main goal is to expand into Africa.

Daryl Gomm starred in his first ever movie in 2006, in the Lindsay Lohan movie 'Just My Luck'. He was an extra in the crowd for the McFly scenes. He won the chance to star as an extra in the film through McFly's mailing list.
Since the movie Daryl was interviewed by local newspaper 'Bucks Herald' about his experinces working on a Hollywood movie production with Regency Enterprises (also the makers of some hit US television shows).
He was honoured to work with the director of two amazing films 'How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days' and the director of 'Miss Congenality'.
Daryl has also appeared on the UK version of Nickelodeon TV as a studio audience member twice, firstly in 1996 and then again in 2002. He wishes to continue with acting in the future and will move to Los Angeles in 2011.
He has recently landed the role as 'Peter Quince' in the production of 'A Midsomer Nights Dream' in conjunction with the Shakespeare Festival at The Civic Centre in February 2007. (www.aylesburycivic.co.uk) The show has now ended.
In 2006 Daryl was part of the Age Concern campaign to get school kids to help the elderly with IT, he did a photoshoot with a 80 year old woman!
Daryl, has charity close to his heart. Whenever he can he likes to fundraise for various different charities including 'The Jeans For Genes Appeal' helping children born with a genetic disorder, 'Children in Need' and very recently 'Florence Knightingale House' a hospice for cancer patients in Buckinghamshire, England.
Daryl is currently taking a break from Acting and the world of showbusiness after achieving an A in GCSE Drama. Daryl will move to Los Angeles in the next five years to enter the Showbiz world as an adult. He hopes Hollywood will bring him success. He will search for Acting Agencies in Los Angeles within the next 3 years.
After working with Lindsay Lohan in the 2006 movie 'Just My Luck' recently he was asked what he thought of Lohans antics and drug related crimes he replied "Lindsay is a hugely successful actress and what she chooses to do in her life is her choice. What the media say is one thing, Lindsay has her reasons, she is on a journey of life discovery and will come out shining" (Dg 2007)

John Michael O'Reilly is a Conservative politician. He's a member of the Elmbridge Borough Council and he represents Hersham South Ward. Following 4th May 2006 elections, he has been returned with an increase majority and he has been appointed in the local Cabinet in charge of the Housing portfolio. The MetroCircus Also known as a "Nemitz Ring-City", is an improvement on the O’Neill space city concept first developed by Gerard K. O’Neill. The MetroCircus design offers incremental growth and development of space city systems, allowing a learning curve towards building full-fledged O’Neill space cities.
A MetroCircus is a moving train on a circular track. It has no front or back, it’s a seamless circle, or a circular track full of cars. The train may use wheels on the track or be a mag-lev system. The MetroCircus is inside a 1 kilometer diameter circular trench or tunnel in an asteroid, moon, or small planet. A train track is placed on the outer wall of the trench or tunnel. The MetroCircus runs on the track, producing simulated gravity by centripetal force.
One main advantage of this design is that the moving structure does not include the radiation shielding mass. This enables far less massive structures and enables the early development of large-scale habitable structures with simulated gravity in space.
The construction method can vary, from multiple cars to a welded construction for a completely solid circle. The hull could be up to several inches thick and made of nickel-iron, or even solid Platinum Group Metals. One kilometer in diameter is large enough to reduce or eliminate debilitating coriolis effects. A one-kilometer MetroCircus would run at about 150 kph to simulate 0.40 gravity.
To get on and off the moving city, another track runs alongside. A ‘commuter bus’ accellerates to match speed with the city, then workers and materials are transferred.

Delta Tau Chi is a local fraternity at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. Delta Tau Chi began in 1988. It is dedicated to the ideals of brotherhood, academic excellence, community service, and cultural pluralism. Ms Tonti-Filippini was born to a wealthy couple by the names of Don Tonti-Filippini and Mavis Thompson. Despite being born without the ability to walk sideways Claire began her early years as a happy go lucky child under the care of her loving mom and dad. Often teased for not being able to walk sideways and called the "reverse crab" by her classmates Claire still managed to earn her first $15,000 by the age of 15 through collecting hair from hairdressers and making wigs for the homeless. She came under much critism from her peers at the age of 20 for apparently exploiting the homeless and decided this was a good a time as any to start a new venture and enter a new period in her life.
Discovering that she had a knack for counting (this came about through counting the individual hairs required for making a wig) Claire decided to try her hand at bank telling. Working at Boston Savers she began her new position the same week she moved out of her parents home. She quickly progressed up the ranks and took on the position of bank manager by the age of 24. Her underhanded way of taunting and manipulating the people around her made her branch become extremely successful and she was offered a promotion and the title of regional manager. However she was never to take on this position as she was kicked by two of the teller working under her on the same day four hours apart and recieved a skull fracture 9 inches long. Claire could have avoided these hits if she had have mastered the ability to walk sideways.
Disheartened by the events at her workplace she again decided to change her occupation. She went through a number of jobs in a number of years (mentioned above) but was unable to find something that counld sufficiently encorporate her love of counting and not require any sideways walking. Claire "the reverse crab" Tonti-Filippini began to lose hope until a fatefull day some ten years ago. Little did she know that she had abilities she was not aware of. And so it was, that she earned her first million in 4 months using her new found talents and is today regarded as the greatest professional in her field.

Isaac Lee Patterson Memorial Bridge--Gold Beach, Oregon
The Isaac Lee Patterson Memorial Bridge, completed in 1932, spans the Rogue River, about a half-mile from the ocean, connecting Gold Beach with Wedderburn. When completed, the 1,932 foot span was the longest bridge between San Francisco and the Columbia River. A beautiful example of Conde McCullough's design style, the concrete span of several graceful arches was recently refurbished and re-lighted. The Bridge was named after Isaac Lee Patterson, governor of Oregon from 1926 to 1929.

Coach Joe Brodsky won three Super Bowl as a running backs coach with the Dallas Cowboys during the 1990s. Brodsky was also responsible for recruiting and developing Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith. A football coach for four decades, Brodsky left an enduring legacy of excellence and committment among players at the high school, college and professional level.

Matthew Zarbo was born in New Jersey nd moved to California. he has had countless accomplishments which include alot of crazy stuff. He has many great friends and loves to skate surf and snowboard. Yard Dogs Road Show
The Yard Dogs Road Show is a thirteen-member travelling cabaret that features a unique blend of performances, including vaudeville, burlesque, stage magic, sideshow oddities, and beatnik "hobo poetry." Performances include musical interludes, song and dance numbers, and background music from the Yard Dogs cartoon gypsy band, The Golden Wings of Glory. Originally from San Francisco, the Yard Dogs made their first full-fledged national tour in the Spring of 2005, playing 25 shows in 35 days with seven sold-out performances.
History
The Yard Dogs began in 1998 as a three-piece traveling jug band formed by Yard Dogs founder Eddy Joe Cotton. The jug band started out playing in the road houses and dance halls of the west coast. During this time, band members partook in modern day acid tests with the likes of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. For the next year, the band toured up and down the west coast in a 1967 Ford Galaxy 500. It was on a cold night in 1999 that the band stopped to roll out their sleeping bags off of Interstate 5 at a place called Dog Creek Road that the band found its new name and new calling. Thus the Yard Dogs Road Show was born.
One by one, the band attracted its colorful cast of performers. The band now sports such members as Tobias the Mystic Man (sword-swallower and magician), Guitar Boy (a spandex-sporting "guitar hero"), Hellvis (a musclebound fire-eater), and the Black and Blue Burlesque dancing girls. Founder Eddy Joe Cotton has also performed with They Might be Giants and has been featured on NPR, West Coast Live, and To the Best of Our Knowledge. He is also the author of Hobo - A Young Man’s Thoughts On Trains And Tramping In America, which made it to the Denver Post best seller list.
The Yard Dogs Road Show has performed at venues such as the Knitting Factory in Hollywood and NYC, the Bluebird Theater in Denver, Colorado and the Orpheum Theater in Flagstaff, Arizona. They have collaborated with Teatro Zinzanni, Red Bull, Lucas Films, and New Belgium Brewery, and they participate in annual Native American cultural exchange fesitivals with the Quechan and Mohave tribes.

USS Castine was originally built as PC-452, a Submarine Chaser.
PC-452 was Laid down on 14 March 1940 at the DeFoe Boat and Motor Works in Bay City, Michigan, as Hull #167, under the Experimental Small Craft program of 17 May 1938. She was launched on 23 August 1941 and towed to the Philadelphia Navy Yard to be fitted out with boilers; and commissioned as USS PC-452 on 1 May 1944.
PC-452 was to be used as a steam turbine test bed hull, while PC-451, also an experimental ship built at Defoe, used diesel electric drive. Originally called "X-Boats," they differed in detail and were listed as 165 footers, even though they were 173 feet long.
PC-452 was reclassified as an Unclassified Miscellaneous Auxiliary, 'IX-211, and named Castine on 10 March 1945. Castine was decommissioned on 3 October 1945; struck from the Naval Register, (date unknown); and transferred to the Maritime Commission for disposal in January 1947. Her ultimate fate is unknown.

The Hamadiya incident refers to the shooting death of an Iraqi man on April 26, 2006 in Hamadiya, Iraq. Today the club runs 3 senior teams, a Colts XV, ladies under 17s team, a thriving junior and Minis section for boys and girls from 6 to 16 years of age and a new starter group (The Little Ruggers) for children interested in learning the game from 4 years old.
The First XV plays in the Southern Counties (South) League. New players are always welcome. Training is held each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7.30 pm for seniors and Colts. Friday evenings from 6.00pm for under 13's, under 14s and under 16s, and Sunday mornings from 10.00 am for Minis. We also run a ladies under 14’s as well as an under 17’s team. LISSETTE ALVAREZ
Even before Lissette opened her eyes to this world, she was surrounded by music. Lissette's parents, Olga and Tony (a very popular singing duo from Cuba in the 50's) were touring through Central and South America carrying Lissette everywhere before and after birth. Exposed to the colorful music of Los Andes and the contagious rythms of the Caribbean, she grew up in dressing rooms and television studios and had her very own first hit record in Cuba at the age of five.
To avoid Cuban communist indoctrination in schools, her parents sent Lissette and her sister Olga to the US with a program called Peter Pan, in which Cuban children were placed in differents schools, orphanages and foster homes hoping to be someday reunited with their parents. She experienced a hard life in exile at an early age and accompanied by an old guitar, one of her few possesions, she wrote her first songs.
The sisters reunited in Miami with their family after 3 years and moved to Puerto Rico where her parents were offered to have their own TV show. Lissette started singing at her parent's show and soon she also was offered a contract at Telemundo, Channel 2 to do her own show. Soon after came a recording contract with a local label and a star was born.
Lissette created the "Lissette look," and fashion trends like her hats and boots were worn by the women, as her music was sung by the young and the old and her marriage as a teenager to singing idol Chucho Avellanet was televised paralyzing the country for a day.
Television was always a very important vehicle for Lissette. She conducted her own show through the Telemundo Network, and was awarded prestigious acknowledgements." The Lissette Special" with Michele Legrand (produced by Channel 4 in Miami and "Lissette and Friends" with Melissa Manchester and Liz Torres, (Channel 10,) each winning several Emmy Awards.
Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Trop World in Atlantic City, El Centro de Bellas Artes, in San Juan, The James L. Knight and The Jackie Gleason theatres in Miami, Madison Square Garden, NY, the Miami Arena, have been some of the stages where the "showwoman" has received standing ovations from her loyal fans. She also had the leading role in a soap opera called Solamente Tu, and acted in 3 movies. In the classic film Winter Kills with Jeff Bridges and Anthony Perkins, Lissette sang and wrote the song for her scene.
Lissette has over twenty five albums with countless hits like: Eclipse Total Del Amor, Poema 20, Copacabana, Eva, Mal Sueño, Como Decirte, Apaga la Luz, Fuego, Lo Voy A Dividir, among others, Lissette consistently appeared in the Latin American music charts over the years.
Lissette's most recent work is "Lissette En Vivo," (Lissette Live! ) recorded during her concerts at the Center of Performing Arts in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This double CD album contains the excitement and magic that she projects in every performance.
Her multi-talent, was often imitated by many evolving artists and respected by the music industry throughout her career.

Martin Popplewell is a broadcaster and journalist.
He started his career as a journalist on the BBC’s news trainee scheme. However his break into TV was an unusual one. When he was just 15 years old he saw the film “The Blue Lagoon” and decided he too wanted to live as a castaway on a completely uninhabited Pacific Island with just one woman for company! He returned to his teenage desert island to make a documentary “The Real Castaway”. The programme was transmitted on Boxing Day 2001 and won wide critical acclaim - being described by “The Sunday Times” as one of the "must watch" programmes over Christmas.
Martin has presented the news on Five, BBC News 24 and SKY News. He also fronted the lifestyle magazine show "Five News at Breakfast". The programme was a mix of showbiz news, lifestyle features and movie reviews. He’s reported for ITN and worked as a political reporter for the BBC’s “On The Record”.
Before joining the BBC, Martin was a researcher for Alan Duncan MP at the House of Commons. He also worked for Congressman Richard Gephardt in Washington D.C. and as a volunteer on President Bill Clinton’s election campaign.
Martin is an experienced scuba diver and has written travel features on the subject for "The Times".
He has a degree in zoology from University College London.

Planed Plant (Children's Planet) and Planed Plant Bach (Small Children's Planet) are both variants of children's television programs CBBC and CBeebies on the BBC. Both programs are shown on the Welsh television channel S4C, founded in 1982, and boast a wide range of programs for Welsh Children.

Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM) is a reliable multicast transport protocol. Reliable means in this case that the receiver of a multicast stream can detect if all packets involved in this stream were actually received and which packets were not received. This means PGM cannot guarantee delivery. Instead best-effort delivery and loss-detection are implemented. PGM is an IEEE experimental protocol. As that it is no standard yet.

Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival
June 3, 1986 The Greater Fort Lauderdale Film Festival was founded to introduce independent cinema to a South Florida audience base of more than four-and-a-half million people.
1987 - Festival was named one of seven original Vital Cultural Institutions of the State of Florida by the legislature, the Governor and the Florida Arts Council.
1988 - The Fest begins screenings at AMC Coral Ridge. Fest's Opening Party is Doubletree Galleria's opening party too.
1989 - Festival named Gregory von Hausch Executive Director. Year-round programming and a membership base begins. Special guests included Michael Moore and Lynn Redgrave.
1990 - Fest became a three-week event taking place from Miami to Boca Raton. Martin Scorsese presented our Student Film Awards. Guests included Marlo Thomas and Darren McGavin. Fest honors the career of Natalie Wood with a retrospective. Chuck Workman is also honored.
1991 - Festival changes name to Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. Launches Lifetime Achievement Awards. Honored Peter Bogdanovich, Mark Rydell, Donald O'Connor, Vincent Price, Van Johnson, Jerry Lewis and Burt Reynolds. Presenters included Charles Durning, and Patrick O'Neal. Guests included Claude Atkins, Alan Rickman, and Samuel Z. Arkoff. Entre Nous the support committee for the Film Festival is formed. In February, Fest hosts first reception at LA's American Film Market and its first Cannes Party at The American Pavilion in May. Both parties become annual events.
1992 - Fest presents a special retrospective for honoree Audrey Hepburn, other guests included Jennifer Beals, Alexandre Rockwell, Les Blank and Matthew Harrison. 1992 also marked our first year of screening IMAX film. Other guests that year included Elliot Gould and Edward James Olmos.
1993 - Fest's student film competition went national. Students from Yale, USC, North Carolina, NYU, UCLA, Florida State Univ. and Columbia won awards. An Art On Film documentary series was added to the program list as was an Academy Award Documentary series. Guests included Ashley Judd, Elisabeth Shue and Roger Corman who received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
1994 - Festival exceeded the cash receipts of the '92 and '93 festivals combined. More than 35,000 people attended the event which proved to be a major coup as Tropical Storm Gordon roared in and remained through the first five days of the festival. Regardless, Fest produced more sell-outs than anytime in its short nine year history and presented six U.S. premieres and one world premiere. Special guests included Treat Williams, Shane Black (Lethal Weapon) and Martin Donovan.
1995 - Fest launched the first ever Film Festival in the Sky with Carnival Air Lines (every Lauderdale bound flight included a Festival film). An unprecedented Media Reception at JFK and a press conference held 30,000 feet aboard a special flight made cinema history. Special guests included Michael Caine, Roger Moore, Dany Delany, JT Walsh, Mia Sara, Tim Reid, Jason Connery, Jon Cryer, Robert Wuhl and Gregory Hines.
1996 - Fest featured 110 films from 30 countries and drew 57,000 admissions. Guests included: Tony Curtis, Gian Carlo Esposito, Noah Taylor (Shine) and Kevin Spacey. Taylor introduces SHINE at Parker Playhouse in a white undershirt...Fine Line reps take him shopping at Galleria before Opening Party. Spacey draws a crowd on Las Olas after introducing his directorial debut at Amaturo.
1997 - Festival honored director Robert Wise (West Side Story, Sound of Music), Arthur Hiller, Ben Gassara, Peter Bogdanovich, Gena Rowlands, Nick Nolte, Leonard Rosenman, Amanda Plummer, Fairuza Balk and Robert Forster. Our first Black Tie Gala on the beach under a crystal clear tent under a full moon...in between two incredibly rainy, blustery days...whew!
1998 - Film Society named the fifth inductee as a Broward Major Cultural Institution as designated by the Broward Cultural Affairs Council. The other organizations are Florida Philharmonic, the Florida Grand Opera, the Museum of Discovery and Science and the Museum of Art. Fest broke all records with 62,000 attendees. Special guests included John Frankenheimer, David Arquette, Christina Applegate, Armand Assante and many others. Seventeen world premieres and 120 films from 35 countries were featured in 300 screenings.
1999 - Fest attracts over 66,000 attendees and presented over 120 films including world and national premieres. Among those were GREY OWL, a true historical drama starring Pierce Brosnan, and directed by Lord Richard Attenborough. Prior to the film screened Lord Attenborough was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award on-stage at Parker Playhouse. Closing the Festival at our Luminaries Black Tie Gala were special guests Norman Jewison, Eva Marie Saint, Kelly McGillis, Lukas Haas and Tim Roth. Festival moves into year-round home, the former Vinnette Carroll Theatre. The 200-seat horseshoe-shaped auditorium, built as a church and renovated as a live performing arts theatre in '86 needed much repair as well as retro-fitting for film.
2000 - FLIFF partners with Convention & Visitors Bureau, presents a four-day celebration for the new millennium with films from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. The 15th Film Festival ran Oct 16 - Nov 12, again the world's longest film festival. Guests included Peter Falk, John Waters, Howard Keel, Rob Morrow and director George Sidney (Bye Bye Birdie, Kiss Me Kate, Showboat, Viva Las Vegas, Annie Get Your Gun). Festival interrupted a bit as Florida mulls over who it will choose as our new President (wanna know weird?...Opening Night Nov. 3 featured Sec of State Katherine Harris a key figure in the infamous vote recount and funnyman John Waters on-stage...4 days before election). 66,000 people attended. A Cultural Facility Grant was funded just under $200,000. FLIFF receives 1st of three grants from Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
2001 - Cinema Paradiso officially opened. From January thru August over 350 screenings. In Feb we began a nine week intensive filmmaking course at Northeast High School. In June we launched LOCAL FILMMAKER NIGHT, providing up-and-coming filmmakers with opportunities to screen their movies. In July we began Movies in the Park at DDA Plaza, presenting free films for families. The 16th Film Festival ran Oct 17 - Nov 11 in Miami, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Special guests included Jonathan Silverman, Paul Mazursky, Paul Sorvino, Lorri Bagley, Peter Hewitt, Laura Frasier.
2002 - Cinema Paradiso finishes renovation with new seats, seating areas, platter, screen, sound system (Dolby Digital), carpeting, handicap bathroom, painting, and café equipment were installed or constructed. A weekly outdoor movie was launched at Beach Place as was a monthly program at Weston. The 17th Film Festival took place from October 18 - November 24th. Special guests included Matt Damon, Leslie Nielsen, Steve Guttenberg, Irvin Kershner, Maria Bello and more than 150 independent filmmakers around the world.
2003 - The 18th Festival ran from October 17 - November 16. A new format of using Cinema Paradiso for Sunshine Celluloid, American Indies, Shorts, and Documentaries; and Parker Playhouse for the World Cinema and Competition screenings. Special guests included Nestor Carbonnell (Star on the Horizon recipient), Jacqueline Bissett and Sir Ben Kingsley (both Career Achievement recipients).
2004 - 5th consecutive year, FLIFF presents monthly free outdoor screenings of The Maroone Moonlight Movies (May - Oct at Huizenga Plaza downtown Ft Lauderdale and Oct - April at Weston Regional Park). The Asian Pacific sidebar celebrates its 10th year. Cinema Paradiso begins new program with Florida Atlantic University's Latin American Studies Dept, an annual festival dedicated to Latin American Cinema. Inaugural year celebrated Venezuela with 20 films. Nova Southeastern Univ collaborated with Cinema Paradiso to present the Common Ground Film Festival in June. FLIFF created The Perrier French Film Festival which ran for 3 weeks in July and August. The Festival also increased its reach by taking a 4-day film fest to Highlands, North Carolina. The 19th Annual Festival ran Oct 14 through Nov 21. Guests were: Andrew McCarthy, Fred Willard, Christopher McDonald, JoAnn Pflug, Cara Buono plus filmmakers from Nepal, South Korea, India, Sweden, Scotland, France, Croatia, Checkoslavakia, Italy, Spain, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, Canada, and throughout the US. Venues and cities included: Weston, Coral Gables, Delray Beach, Sunrise, and Fort Lauderdale. In Dec, FLIFF went on the road again, this time taking 20 films for 4 days to Key West. Also in December we launched the 1st Annual CAN Film Festival for Charity which presented Christmas films with admission two cans of food or one new toy per person. Proceeds benefited The Broward Partnership for the Homeless and The Haitian Relief Effort. We also began a monthly film for The City of Hollywood.
2005 - began with our annual presentation of the Director's Guild of America nominees for Best Directed Films (THE AVIATOR, FINDING NEVERLAND, SIDEWAYS, RAY, and MILLION DOLLAR BABY). Our Outreach program took films to Labelle (in Florida's Everglades) and three days to Fort Myers. We also presented two nights of films at The Art Deco Festival in Miami and one night at the Ford Classic at Doral. In March, FAU's Latin Festival at Cinema Paradiso celebrated the films of Colombia. In April we created the first ever, FLIFF Florida High School Competition. Over 150 entries from all over the State came in and for three days we presented the winning films, hosted seminars and handed out awards. The winning films will screen at the Festival in October. In June, Nova's Common Ground Film Festival played for two weeks. In July, FLIFF working with the Broward Creative Industries Council honors the professional videographers with The Best of Florida - Made in Florida. The 2nd Annual Perrier French Film Festival ran July 22 - Aug 7. In August Cinema Paradiso went digital partnering with Emerging Cinemas. In Sept a monthly program began at FAU's DeSantis Center for Motion Picture Industry Studies' screening room. The 20th Annual FLIFF ran Oct 14 - Nov 20, biggest fest ever: 38 days, 200+ films, seminars, student film competition, Sunshine Celluloid and guests director Arthur Penn, Whoopi Goldberg, Juliette Lewis, Joshua Jackson, Cuba Gooding, Jr, James Woods, Veronica Cartwright, Irene Cara, Kellie Martin, and filmmakers from nearly 40 countries. FLIFF receives 3rd grant from The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, 1st time for any Florida film festival. The CAN Film Festival for Charity ran Dec 9-11. The 2nd semi-annual Key West Mini Fest ran Dec 15-18.

Won 3rd Major Grant from Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences - only film fest in the South with such a distinction. Created The Florida High School Film Competition Became a partner with Emerging Cinemas, New York Resurrected the Best of Florida - Made in Florida Created The Target Family Film Festival. Created The BOO-tacular on Las Olas for Families. Programs: FAU (Boca), BCC (Davie), Nova Univ (Davie). Distributed a film nationally (Perlasca) as opposed to platforming. Melissa Byrd was born on September 21, 1982, in Buffalo, New York. From 1987 until 1996 - kindergarten until the eighth grade - she attended the Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament school, where she stills holds the record for most consecutive Regional Spelling Bees won, from sixth grade until eighth. She also played on the Girls' Basketball team.
She moved on to Lancaster High School, where she was part of the Class of 2000, and graduated in the top 10% of her class, 30th highest out of 377. While she attended, she played both JV and Varsity soccer, held the position of Vice-President of Z-Club (the high school's affiliate of Zonta International), was inducted into the Spanish Honor Society, participated in Foreign Language Club, Stage Crew (where she put together a starry backdrop that is still used to this day), and the Beautification Commitee.

Charles Shaw, the CBS journalist who worked with Edward R. Murrow during World War II and then went on to be News Director and broadcast journalist at WCAU-TV, the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia, PA, was born on June 25, 1911, in Charleroi, PA, near Pittsburgh.
While at WCAU in the early 50s, he was one of the first broadcast journalists to speak out against Sen. Joseph McCarthy -- even before Murrow did so.
In the late 50s, Shaw was drawn to the story of the burgeoning Cuban revolution, and he travelled to Cuba to secretly meet with Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro in the mountains of southern Cuba. When Castro came to power, Shaw was invited to Cuba by the new government, and he was also given a commendation by Castro when the new Cuban leader visited Washington in the early 60s, before relations between the two governments turned sour.
After leaving CBS in the early 60s, Shaw became editor of the Bucks County Gazette, in New Hope, PA.
Shaw died in December of 1987.

Dr John van Wyhe John van Wyhe is a historian of science and the Director of the research project The complete work of Charles Darwin online at the University of Cambridge. He is affiliated with the Department of History & Philosophy of Science, a Member of Council for the British Society for the History of Science and Director of its Wheeler Library.
He is currently researching the origins and development of the legend that Darwin discovered evolution on the Galapagos islands and Darwin's 'delay'. These and a number of other articles on Darwin in preparation will form part of a book for 2009 tentatively titled 'Darwin stories'. The transcription and editing of the correspondence of J.G. Spurzheim (2 volumes) is also nearing completion.
His general historical research interests include 18th and 19th-century naturalism, science and evolution. In addition he is working on an interdisciplinary theory of cultural change which combines the findings of history, cognitive science, neuroscience, historical linguistics, sociology, archaeology, anthropology and philosophy of science.

The 1980 film "Sällskapsresan," which translates from Swedish to "The Conducted Tour," is the first in a series directed by Lasse Åberg. The plot follows a hapless Swede, Stig-Helmer Olsson (Lasse Åberg), and his new Norwegian friend Ole Bramserud (Jon Skolmen), as they vacation in the Canary Islands. They comically struggle with the different culture, interact with the other tourists, and both ultimately find love. Other characters they meet include the newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Storch; the psychologist Dr. Levander, who tricks Stig-Helmer into smuggling money for him; and the alcoholic duo Berra and Robban, who spend the whole film searching for a legendary place where one can buy 80% proof rum hidden in a wine bottle.
The film series is among the most well-known in Sweden; it pokes fun at Swedish stereotypes while ultimately vindicating them. It is considered a quintessential Swedish classic. Although they were very successful in Sweden, none of the movies were never distributed internationally.

Electric City is a comic strip currently running in "La Brea Living" magazine. The comic strip offers a satirical, sometimes humorous, view on the superhero genre. The heroes are collectively known as the Peacekeepers, residing in the fictional city of Electric City. Thus far, the comic strip has focused more attention on the personal lives of the characters and has yet to create much conflict between the handful of villains that have been introduced. Characters introduced so far include: Snow Bunny, Hula, Electronica, Ice Queen, Keahi, Verve, Psiren, Glass, Icarus, Silverback, Keroptera & Gremln.
The comic strip began its run in May 2005.

Laura Burhenn is a singer/songwriter from Washington DC. She has put out two full-length albums and one split e.p. with Dagan James. Her latest album "Wanderlust" is what you might get if you put Cat Power, Radiohead, Tori Amos, and early Beatles in a blender. Her voice is breathy, melodic, and soulful. Laura is also one half of the band Georgie James. The other half is ex Q and Not U member, John Davis. They are retro pop rock with a hint of punk.

In March 2004, Karuna broke away from the mainstream LTTE after he alleged they were ignoring the interests of the eastern Tamil people.He is supposedly fighting on behalf of Eastern Tamils. Most people in the east belong to the Mukkuva community. The Tigers reacted by launching attacks against Karuna's forces, and heavy clashes ensued. His forces were evicted from the district he was in control. He eventually established camps for his followers in areas under Sri Lankan army control.
By 2005, Karuna's force was the main focal point of the LTTE's anger toward the government, as they charged that it was being used by the Sri Lankan military to wage a covert war against them. Many abductions and murders of Tamil civilians were attributed to his group working directly under the guidance of Sri Lankan army officers.The main reason to karuna yo leave the organization was that peabahakaran does not allow a seconed line leadership prompting in his organization.This fact can be justified by the assasination of Mahendrarajah one time deputy leader of the organization,by prabahakaran.colonel karuna was breave enough to understand this truth and the negligence of carders of easturn province by the tamil leadership mainly due to the caste factor.Now he has recended terorist activities and assured to the norwagien peace monitors that eastern tamils are prepared for a negotiated political settlement.

Stringent is a 5 member Christian metal band from Crawfordsville, Indiana. A line from their website best describes them: "Stringent reaches out to those who are outcast and rejected. They reach the lost that the world seems to forget about. Being a Christian is a serious thing, and Stringent proves it both on, and off the stage."
Formed in 2001, Stringent struggled to get on it's feet playing wherever they could set up a mic and an amp. The more they played, the more their sound developed into something more concete. The size of the audiences parralleled the development of their sound. As their fanbase grew, Stringent decided to cut a live self-titled EP so they could get their sound to more worshippers in early 2003. Stringent recorded their debut studio album (In My Remains) in late 2003. Stringent mostly played in Indiana, with a few shows in the Chicago area. They have played with several established bands like Victory Records' Dead To Fall, Blood Runs Cold, Anah Aevia, and With Resistance to name a few.
The lineup has changed several times. The original members of Stringent are Josh Rickard on bass, Levi Denman on guitar, Dave Davenport on drums, and last but not least the screamer Luke Denman on vocals. In 2002, Stringent added Brendan Gleason on backup vocals and Jacob "Bake" Henry on bass; with a new bassist, Josh Rickard gave up his bass for the rythm guitar. In 2003, Josh Rickard made another change to lead guitar and now Matt Newlin is on the rhythm guitar and Kurt Todd is making lots of noise on drums.
In early 2004, Stingent fell to the fate of most "garage bands" and went their seperate ways.

It is easily accesible by bike or footpath. there is no public transit that stops at the beach, so you must get there on your own. The beach cannot usually be accesed by car, however exceptions are made to a club's kayak-towing van, which enters via Lanark Avenue. The beach is large and sandy, and contains a small canteen and eating area on the east side of the beach. The beach will be closed after more than 5mm of rainfall, or when tests indicate more than 200 E-coli bacteria per 100 ml of water. Because of these regulations, the beach is often closed throughout the summer(which does not mean people do not swim there, it just means that no lifeguard supervises the beach). Fishing or motorized boating is not allowed on the beach, but this seems to be regularly ignored. Also, extending from either side of the beach is rocky shoreline where people light fires, do drugs, and drink lots of beer(the evidence is on the ground).Many local kayakers also use the facilities however, holding races, testing boats, or occasionally kayaking downriver from Brittania Beach(subject to the same environmental regulations as wWestboro Beach).
