Siobhan Donaghy (born June 14, 1984 in London, England), is a female singer-songwriter. Until September 2001, she was a member of English pop group, the Sugababes, after which she was replaced by new member Heidi Range. After her departure from the Sugababes, Donaghy released three solo singles and an album. She still lives in Eastcote, Middlesex, with her family.

Leaving Sugababes

Donaghy and her fellow band-mates Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan had been following a heavy touring schedule for over a year with Donaghy gradually becoming more and more unhappy with her position in the band. Feeling that the other girls and their managers were trying to force her into a direction that she didn't like, Donaghy was finding it all too much to handle, and during an interview with a magazine in Japan along with her bandmates, Donaghy excused herself to go to the toilet and never returned. The incident happened without warning, but Donaghy has never apologised, nor apparently looked back on the decision with chagrin.

Revolution In Me

In March 2003 Donaghy released her first single as a solo artist. "Nothing But Song" was released as a 7" vinyl single only and was relatively unknown. In June 2003 her first commercial solo single was released. "Overrated", co-written with Paul Simm, entered the Official UK Singles Chart at #19. Following up "Overrated", the single "Twist of Fate" was released in September 2003 and charted at #52. Two weeks later saw the release of her debut album Revolution in Me.

Donaghy's debut album was released on London Records on September 29 2003 in the UK. Its debut chart position was a disappointing #117, said to be due to lack of promotion. Lending a hand to Donaghy on Revolution in Me were father-son producers and writers Cameron and Marlon McVey. The Sugababes, All Saints and Neneh Cherry are some of the acts Cameron McVey has worked with in the past. Each of the 12 tracks on the album was co-written by Donaghy with McVey, Preetesh Hirji, Matt Kent, and others. The title Revolution in Me is said to reflect her decision to go her separate way, leaving the Sugababes. Several of the tracks on the album have titles which do not appear in the lyrics (see List of songs where the title does not appear in the lyrics)

Shanghai Nobody

Shanghai Nobody is an inventive anagram of Siobhán Donaghy. Donaghy released "Nothing But Song" under this title as she did not want to be known as "The girl who left the Sugababes". Upon the release of her first commercial single, "Overrated", Donaghy reverted to her given name.

Future for Donaghy

Donaghy parted with London records in a mutual decision with the company. After recording a second album with no record label it was rumoured that Donaghy was in talks with Parlophone, part of the EMI group. These rumours have been confirmed by Donaghy herself on her fan site. On her official MySpace page, Donaghy previewed the title track from the album. Ghosts will be released as a 7" promotional single and will be the first release from her album of the same name. Don't Give It Up, also previewed on her MySpace page, will be released sometime in January 2007 but radio play is expected as early as October 2006. Cameron McVey is said to have worked with Donaghy on two of the album tracks.

Since 2003, Donaghy has appeared as a backing vocalist on the Mattafix album Signs of a Struggle, as well as singing on some tracks with Morcheeba.

Former Bananarama and Shakespears Sister vocalist and songwriter Siobhan Fahey has confirmed on her website message board that she is working with Donaghy. In a post dated August 13, 2006, Fahey wrote, "[I] am doing a bit of writing at the moment for/with Siobhan Donaghy. Her voice is very beautiful and her new stuff sounds great. Shades of Liz Frazer, Kate Bush and Massive Attack. Right up my strasse. We got something good going. Hope you get to see it." [1]
