(21634) Huangweikang is a main inner belt asteroid discovered on July 14, 1999 at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test System ( IAU code 704) in Socorro , New Mexico as part of the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) project. There had been unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid before: on October 31, 1975 (1975 UE 1 ) at the Karl Schwarzschild Observatory in the Tautenburg Forest and in 1998 (1998 HZ 133 ) at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test System.

Mean solar distance ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid correspond to the Flora family, a large group of asteroids named after (8) Flora . Asteroids of this family move in a 4: 9 orbital resonance with the planet Mars around the sun . The group is also called the Ariadne family, after the asteroid (43) Ariadne .

(21633) Hsingpenyuan was named on August 22, 2005 after Huang Wei-Kang (* 1986), a student at Municipal Lishan Senior High School in Taipei , Taiwan , for participating in the 2005 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair , a pre-university Research competition, in the category Environmental Sciences Team Project (group project in the environmental sciences) with his classmate Hsing Pen-Yuan won first prize. His project was titled Enhanced Cooling of Microelectronic Devices by Using the Thermoacoustic Effect (Optimized cooling of microelectronic components by using the thermoacoustic effect). By winning, they qualified for the European Union Contest for Young Scientists 2005, which took place in Moscow .
