designation
(2702) Batrakov was named after the Soviet- Russian astronomer Yuri Wassiljewitsch Batrakow (1926–2013), who was the deputy director of the Institute for Theoretical Astronomy in Saint Petersburg . He was editor-in-chief of the Ehfemeridy Malykh Planet , after which the asteroid (5001) EMP is named. After joining the Institute for Theoretical Astronomy, he researched celestial mechanics and the rings of Saturn . From 1958 he dealt with the orbits of artificial satellites and worked with Vitalij Fjodorowitsch Proskurin , after whom the asteroid (2372) Proskurin is named. From 1985 to 1988 he was Vice President of the 20th Commission of the International Astronomical Union (Positions and Motions of Small Planets, Comets and Satellites).
