(2780) Monnig ( 1981 DO 2 ; 1952 KV ; 1971 BT 3 ; 1971 BV 2 ; 1976 YO ) is an approximately five kilometer large asteroid of the inner main belt that was scolded by the American astronomer John Bus on February 28, 1981 at Siding -Spring Observatory near Coonabarabran , New South Wales in Australia ( IAU code 260) was discovered.

designation

(2780) Monnig was named after the American amateur astronomer Oscar Monnig (1902–1999), who had researched meteorites . The naming was suggested by the American astronomer Eleanor Helin .
