(3025) Higson ( 1982 QR ; 1927 BE ) is an approximately 46 kilometers large asteroid of the main outer belt that was discovered on August 20, 1982 by the American astronomers Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory on Palomar Mountain about 80 kilometers northeast of San Diego ( IAU code 675) was discovered. It belongs to the Higson family , a group of asteroids whose namesake (3025) is Higson.

designation

(3025) Higson was named after Roger Higson , a night assistant for the 1.2 m Schmidt telescope at the Palomar Observatory. His efforts have been recognized in particular by observers of comets and minor planets . The naming was proposed by the explorers Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker and supported by the American astronomers James Gibson and Charles Thomas Kowal .
