Álvaro Corrada del Rio SJ (born May 13, 1942 in Santurce , Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Mayagüez .

Life

Álvaro Corrada del Rio entered the religious community of the Jesuits and received the sacrament of priestly ordination on July 6, 1974 through the Bishop of Arecibo , Miguel Rodriguez Rodriguez CSsR .

On 31 May 1985 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Rusticiana and auxiliary bishop in Washington . The Archbishop of Washington, James Aloysius Hickey , donated him episcopal ordination on August 4 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Washington, Thomas William Lyons and Eugene Antonio Marino SSJ . On July 5, 1997, Álvaro Corrada del Rio was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Caguas .

He was named bishop of Tyler on December 5, 2000, and was appointed bishop on January 30 of the next year. On July 6, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as Bishop of Mayagüez and he was instituted in September 2011 of the same year. Until the episcopal ordination of his successor on November 28, 2012, he continued to administer the diocese of Tyler as Apostolic Administrator.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 9, 2020.
