Training program

  • ENP

The training of safety assistants consists of 12 weeks at school and a 2-week adaptation internship on site. The lessons are both theoretical (peacekeeping, criminal proceedings, general and special criminal law, some elements of administrative law, typing) and practical (martial arts and self-defense sports, shooting, various sports including endurance training). The departmental security assistant competitions are open to any French national under 30, with no diploma requirements.

Security assistants who have been with the company for at least one year (excluding training and internships) can apply for the internal competition for the protection police ( French gardien de la paix ). The contract for security assistants is a fixed-term contract with a term of 3 consecutive years and can be extended for a further 3 years.

The 18 to 25 year old candidates have 28 weeks of training in a police academy and 12 weeks of training in a vocational school to prepare them for the Gardien de la paix exam. In the course of your training, you will have a 7-week internship in a police station.

The Gardien de la paix training takes 12 months. It comprises 35 weeks at school, a 7-week internship in a police station and a second period of 9 weeks at school with courses and practical exercises. The classes are both theoretical (maintaining order, criminal proceedings, general and special criminal law, some elements of administrative law, typing) and practical (martial arts and self-defense sports, weapons equipment, shooting, sporting exercises including endurance training). The competition is open to any French citizen under the age of 35 who has a general or technical high school diploma (external competition) or who has no age limit after one year of service with the rank of security assistant (internal competition).

The Gardiens de la paix with four years of service in this rank can apply for the rank of police sergeant or apply for the internal examination for the rank of police lieutenant.

The training of police officers lasts 18 months, of which 12 months are courses and 6 months are internships.

The lessons are both theoretical (management, peacekeeping, criminal proceedings, general and special criminal law, some elements of administrative law, typing and training to qualify as bailiffs) and practical (martial arts and self-defense sports, shooting, various sports training including endurance training). Police officers with four years of seniority can apply for the post of police commissioner. After five years of service, lieutenants can pursue the rank of captain.

The external competition for officers is open to all French people under the age of 35 who have completed a degree course recognized by the state as bac + 3 (studying at an IEP or law is strongly recommended). The number of places varies, depending on the year, between 45 and 50 places for almost 3,000 candidates, making it one of the most sought-after professions in the administrative sector.

Internal application is open to anyone with the rank of major or brigadier, without age limit; but Gardiens de la paix with at least 4 years of service can also apply. There are around 15 places available.

RULP majors (heads of the local police unit) can also apply for officer posts if they have worked in this rank for five years. For this purpose, 20 places are advertised per year.

On January 1, 2013, the ENSOP was incorporated into the ENSP. However, the school's historic location in Cannes-Écluse continues to train police officers.

The training to become a police superintendent lasts 24 months, 12 months of instruction and 12 months of internship.

The lessons include both theoretical (management, peacekeeping, criminal proceedings, general and special criminal law, administrative law, typing and training to qualify bailiffs) and practical (martial arts and self-defense sports, shooting, various sports training including endurance training) parts.

The external competition is open to French nationals under the age of 35 who have a Masters 2 degree (IEP or Masters in Public Law or Criminal Law are strongly recommended). The external competition is on. The external competition offers 25 to 30 places per year and is considered to be one of the most difficult with the entrance exams together with the ENA and ENM . The internal competition is open to commanders, captains and lieutenants with four years of service and no age limit.

Captains with five years of service in their rank can register by submitting their personnel file to the ENSP.
