In the kkStB 310 it was Austrian express - steam locomotives the kk Austrian National Railways (kkStB).

history

Between 1911 and 1916 the kkStB procured a total of 90 locomotives for express train service on the Northern Railway , the Franz-Josefs-Bahn and the Western Railway .

During the design it had to be taken into account that both the axle loads and the overall length were limited by track and turntable conditions within narrow limits. Then was Karl Gölsdorf already with the number  210 entered and modified it now so that it from a hot steam -Vierzylinder- compound engine was driven. Because of the difficult control, the locomotives designated as series  310 remained flatland machines, but they produced up to 1,800 hp there.

The locomotives were supplied by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory , the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik , the Bohemian-Moravian machine factory , the StEG locomotive factory and the Bohemian company Breitfeld & Daněk .

In 1918, with the founding of the first Republic of Austria, only 43 machines remained with the now Austrian railway administration BBÖ , 35 units came as the 375.0 series to ČSD in Czechoslovakia and 12 units as the Pn12 series to the PKP in Poland, which eventually continued with the ten 310.3 discussed below.

After the connection of Austria to the Nazi-ruled Third Reich in 1938, the locomotives were purchased from the Deutsche Reichsbahn as Class  16 filed. After the occupation of Poland and the beginning of the German-Soviet War, eleven of the PKP Pn12s were added to the 16 series. These were given the company numbers 16 041 , 16 045-050 and 16 061-064 . After the end of the Second World War , the Austrian Federal Railways, now called ÖBB , took over five machines from the 2nd Republic of Austria; while the designation as row  16 was retained.

The use of this type had already decreased in the inter-war period, as maintenance was complex and more and more modern machines were available. The class 16 locomotives were gradually decommissioned until 1957; the last ones were used for express trains in the Villach area .

The 1956 decommissioned locomotive 16.08 was initially set up as a museum locomotive in front of the Technisches Museum Wien , but then restored and made operational again in 1985–1987 for the 150th anniversary of the Austrian (mechanically driven) railways. It is used for nostalgic trips under the old number of kkStB 310.23 and is stationed in the Strasshof Railway Museum . The boiler was rebuilt in 1999 with partial sponsorship from the model railway company Roco , which brought out a special H0 model of the 310.23 for the occasion. The old boiler can be viewed on the grounds of the Strasshof Railway Museum.

The ČSD decommissioned its machines of this series until 1950. The 375.007 is located in the National Technical Museum in Prague .

When the kkStB wanted to get express locomotives again in 1915, no fire boxes could be made from this material due to the lack of copper due to the war. Therefore, it was decided to modify the number 310 and Brotankessel from mild steel to incorporate that in Hungary had proven successful. However, this increased the axle load to 15.4 t, which meant that they could no longer be freely used in Austria.

Although ordered in 1915, the Floridsdorf locomotive factory did not deliver ten of these machines, known as the 310.3 series, until 1918  . The kkStB took the 310,300 to 306 from, then the First World War was over and the monarchy broke up. The factory therefore had no choice but to offer the machines for sale. Finally in 1919/1920 the Prussian State Railways acquired seven of the machines and classified them as S 11 1301–1307 . The remaining three locomotives were bought by PKP and, like the other 310s, classified as Pn12 .

The S 11 were used in the 500 km cross-country skiing Berlin - Katowice with a change of personnel in Frankfurt (Oder) . However, they did not meet the expectations and, given the unusual design of the boiler, they were moved to Katowice. By ceding Eastern Upper Silesia to Poland in 1921, they came to the PKP, which placed them in the Pn12 series. As a result of the occupation of Poland and the Russian campaign, all ten machines came to the DR , which they classified as 16 042-044 and 065-071 (although most of them were only in the books ). Together with 51 other former 310s they were relocated to Vienna , where they hauled the corridor express trains Vienna– Wroclaw - Königsberg and Vienna – Berlin to Wildenschwert as well as trains to Pressburg , Marchegg and Brno . After the Second World War , the machines were returned to Poland as long as they were still operational.
