The X401.001 is a service vehicle of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). It has been used as an examination railcar in tunnels since 1996 .

history

The Austrian Federal Railways needed a suitable vehicle to examine long tunnels . One solution to this problem was a unique rail service vehicle of the X401 series built by Plasser & Theurer on the basis of the ÖBB X552 series .

The single item X401.001 is located in the building materials warehouse in Linz - Wegscheid and is used as required.

technical features

The mechanical part of the vehicle consists of a four-axle working part and a semi-mounted trailer part with a driver's cab based on that of the X552 series. The driver's cab, a measuring room with a pulpit as well as social and sleeping rooms are integrated in the cabin of the working part. The vehicle is equipped with a freely swiveling aerial work platform - which is located between the cabins. The working platform has a lateral reach of 12.9 meters and can be extended up to 13 meters. The railway service vehicle can also be controlled from the work platform. The drive system is similar to that of the X552 series.
