history

Since the Austrian Federal Railways did not have suitable railway service vehicles in the post-war period , the purchase of such vehicles was considered, as only very simple equipment was available for maintaining the route network. The vehicles should be suitable for the transport of personnel as well as for the transport of material. The result was the X626 series. More than 200 of these vehicles were built in the 1970s; thus the X626 is the most popular Austrian railway service vehicle.

All vehicles in the X626 series are painted yellow and are used across the country. This yellow paintwork together with its box-shaped shape earned the trolley the nickname "Postkasterl".

technical features

The draisines are equipped with a normal pulling and pushing device ( buffer and screw coupling) and a rail car central buffer coupling ( funnel coupling ). The vehicles have a WD 610 OS or a WD 612 OS diesel engine from Steyr . Power is transmitted via a mechanical, non-synchronized four-speed gearbox with a downstream directional gearbox , which enables the vehicle to reach a top speed of 50 km / h. The clutch is operated with a foot pedal, which is located next to the accelerator pedal . The indirect gray compressed air brake is operated with a hand lever that is mounted on the hand brake spindle. As a special feature, the block brakes on both axles in a train composition do not apply as usual when the pressure in the main air line is reduced by a few tenths of a bar , but much later, which compensates for the lower braking force compared to regular locomotives and wagons and prevents the axles from locking prematurely. There is also a mechanically operated engine dust brake . In addition to the usual displays for oil pressure , charge control and light, there is a speedometer with an odometer and an operating hours counter on the instrument panel . Displays for the brake cylinder pressure and the pressure of the main air tank and line are located on the hand brake spindle. Each vehicle has an electric horn ( horn ) and a tax collector Makrofon M75. The headlights contain a combined low beam and high beam . The interior of the car is equipped with a Webasto - heater heated. In addition to the driver's seat equipped with a truck seat, up to eight additional people can be seated on the wooden benches in front of the windows .

Whereabouts

The last vehicles in service with ÖBB have already been taken out of service. Some vehicles could be acquired from museum railways , including the draisine route on the Korneuburg – Hohenau local railway where they are still in use. As the only operator in Germany, several copies have been preserved from Eisenbahnfreunde Wetterau . Other vehicles exist in Romania. A vehicle is parked in the Rohrbach-Berg train station in Upper Austria.
