The X629 is a railroad maintenance vehicle - number of the Austrian Federal Railways .
history
In the 1950s and 1960s, the ÖBB built over 100 draisines of the X625 and X626 series from the Wörth works. Since these vehicles were only suitable for bringing personnel to the construction sites and were not set up to take equipment with them, the ÖBB decided to procure several railway service vehicles - similar to the OBW 10 family. When the X629 series was designed, there was a "crossover" between the X627 and X628 series . The result was the vehicles of the X629 series (also known as OBW 9). A second project was road-rail vehicles from the X690 series . The acquisition costs were lower than those of the X629 series, but these vehicles were not registered, which is why it was decided to purchase six X629 series from Plasser & Theurer .
construction
The vehicle frame is welded and consists of several steel profiles. The cab and platform are supported by the frame. The engine is arranged on the platform, the gearbox was installed below the floor. The vehicles also have a loading area and a loading crane. The box transmission was adopted from the X627 and X628 series. All vehicles are painted in the typical ÖBB design for railway service vehicles, black bogies and frames and yellow bodies.
technical features
The drive system consists of a 6-cylinder - four cycle engine with a power of 130 kW and a three-speed power shift transmission , and a retrofitted reversing gear . Power is transmitted to all axles with the help of cardan shafts. All vehicles have both a direct and an indirect air brake .
commitment
The six vehicles of the X629 series are assigned to the most important building yards and are used nationwide as required.
